THE CASE WRITING INITIATIVE (CWI) WAS ESTABLISHED AT SMU IN AUGUST 2010 TO DEVELOP WORLD-CLASS CASE STUDIES FROM AN ASIAN PERSPECTIVE. IT IS BELIEVED THAT USING CASE STUDIES IN THE CLASSROOM PROVIDES A MEANS FOR ABSTRACT AND CONCEPTUAL IDEAS TO BE APPLIED TO PRACTICAL, REAL-WORLD BUSINESS SCENARIOS.

Since inception, CWI has published over 180 case studies, which are available internationally through the Case Centre website (https://casewriting.smu.edu.sg/). The quality of these cases has been frequently acknowledged, and CWI has, over the past three years, won eight awards in the prestigious global EFMD case writing competition.

Participants will receive hands-on training from professional case writers. During this workshop, participants will build a strong foundation for developing their own business cases. This is a great opportunity to develop valuable writing skills for one’s own organisation in support of learning and development, and documenting institutional knowledge.

TRAINING OBJECTIVES

Participants will learn:

  • About case studies: the history behind them, and their benefits and limitations
  • How to design a case study – ensuring that the key areas are covered systematically
  • What makes a ‘good’ case study

By the end of the session, participants would have been guided in developing their own case study for use in their organisations.
