Overview

At the end of the workshop, participants should be able to

  • Develop a deep understanding of the design thinking process and its underlying mindsets
  • Build design thinking facilitation skills and learn how to prepare materials, design spaces and plan agendas
  • Learn how to conduct effective ethnographic interviews, analyse data by crafting Empathy Map and how to synthesise data by creating User Needs Statements
  • Learn effective brainstorming techniques and prototyping and testing methodologies
  • Learn how to deliver a compelling, engaging, organized and informative design thinking session through modelling, practice and mentoring

In this interactive, hands-on workshop, participants will have an opportunity to refine their understanding of the steps of design thinking process and mindsets and build design thinking facilitation skills. They will learn how to conduct effective ethnographic interviews, how to analyse data by crafting Empathy Maps, how to synthesise data by creating User Needs Statements, effective brainstorming techniques, and prototyping and testing methodologies. This deep expertise is critical to becoming an effective design thinking facilitator. Participants will also learn how to prepare materials, design spaces, and plan agendas.

Senior excutives and managers who have experience in practicing design thinking in their organisations and would like to deepen their learning and expertise.

Assessment

An assessment will be conducted at the end of the course.

Fees and Funding

SkillsFuture Series 

Course fee grant at 70% of course fees (excluding GST) for participants who are successfully enrolled by SMU into approved courses under the Programme. Participants must be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents.

SkillsFuture Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy ("MCES")
Up to 90% of course fees for Singapore Citizens aged 40 years and above

Enhanced Training Support for SMEs ("ETSS")
Up to 90% of course fees for employees of SMEs who are Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents

Workfare Training Support Scheme ("WTS")
Up to 95% of course fees for Singapore Citizens aged 35 years and above (13 years and above for persons with disabilities) earning a monthly income of not more than S$2,000.

SkillsFuture Credit
Singapore Citizens aged 25 and above, and self-funding may use their SkillsFuture Credit (up to S$500) to defray part of the course fee. Please click User Guide on how to submit your claim. SkillsFuture Credit claims may be submitted by logging in via MySkillsFuture.sg.

Speaker/Trainer Bio

Tony Lai is Managing Director of The Idea Factory. In a career spanning 22 years, Tony Lai has accumulated a range of experiences in leading and managing organizations – large companies, public institutions and even start-ups at senior levels. While his industry expertise has been focused largely around the services domain (hospitality, tourism, retail, media, education services, property management, F&B/Entertainment and management consulting), his functional capabilities have been broad covering areas such as strategy, innovation, design, leadership, business development, brand marketing & communications, human resources and corporate finance. These have been critical as Tony have been holding appointments at the CEO, Asst CEO, Managing Director, Chief Strategy Officer and COO levels since 2001 that includes direct P&L responsibilities.
