Overview

This module is part of SMU-CPA Australia Finance Game Changer Series.


The module focuses on the fundamentals of the token economy and peer to peer ways of doing business. It provides a framework for assessment of tokens and how to access such assets via centralised & decentralised exchanges.

Participants will understand the opportunities as well as risks of this new asset class, the maturity of current market structures as well as existing adoption in the financial services industry and beyond. At the end of the course, participants will learn the characteristics and benefits of blockchain technology, where it is applied, the concept of smart contracts, how to implement blockchain ad the challenges and success factors for adoption of blockchain.

Course assessment will be based on classroom exercises, case studies and project presentation. 

Fees and Funding

SkillsFuture Series 

Course fee grant at 70% of course fees (excluding GST) for participants who are successfully enrolled by SMU into approved courses under the Programme. Participants must be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents.

SkillsFuture Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy ("MCES")
Up to 90% of course fees for Singapore Citizens aged 40 years and above

Enhanced Training Support for SMEs ("ETSS")
Up to 90% of course fees for employees of SMEs who are Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents

Workfare Training Support Scheme ("WTS")
Up to 95% of course fees for Singapore Citizens aged 35 years and above (13 years and above for persons with disabilities) earning a monthly income of not more than S$2,000.

SkillsFuture Credit
Singapore Citizens aged 25 and above, and self-funding may use their SkillsFuture Credit (up to S$500) to defray part of the course fee. Please click User Guide on how to submit your claim. SkillsFuture Credit claims may be submitted by logging in via MySkillsFuture.sg.

Absentee Payroll

Full Fee: S$1,712 per participant (including GST).

Nett fees payable per participant after SSG Funding:

Dr. Paul Robert Griffin
Associate Professor of Information Systems (Practice)
Director, MITB (Financial Technology & Analytics) Programme
Singapore Management University

An IT specialist with all-round skills and experience in developing and supporting software systems. Roles include development manager, project manager, developer, engineer and researcher. With a long experience in the finance industry following on from an academic and scientific background I have a wide breadth of experience across industries and demonstrable skills in analysis, problem solving, leading teams, process engineering and governance.

Daniel Liebau
Founder, Lightbulb Capital

An Affiliate Faculty member of the SMU Academy, Daniel (Dan) is the Founder of Lightbulb Capital and has a keen interest in Innovation in Finance and Investment Management.

Before starting the firm, Dan was Chief Operating Officer (COO) and an Executive Director of HSBC Securities (Singapore) Pte Limited. He was previously also the IT Head of HSBC’s Investment Bank in Singapore and Japan. Dan has over 17 years of Investment Banking Technology experience at UBS in both Germany and the UK, Barclays Capital in both Singapore and Tokyo, as well as Close Brothers in Frankfurt, his hometown.

Most recently, Dan is appointed as affiliate faculty of Singapore Management University. In addition, he is a frequent speaker at seminars on Innovation in Financial Services. He also partners with the SUTD-MIT International Design Centre for research projects at the intersection of Innovation and Finance.

He graduated with a Master of Science in Innovation from Singapore Management University and holds a Master in Finance from IE business school in Madrid, Spain.
