Learning Objectives

This 7-day programme combines go-to-market curriculum with access to industry experts as well as market mentors. The programme allows participants to gain first hand knowledge of China's business environment ranging from market insights, culture and financial systems in Beijing and Shanghai. Designed for business executives, this programme is built around in-depth, rigorous discussions among participants and Singapore-based business owners in Beijing and Shanghai about their experiences and challenges. Participants will receive guidance from industry experts and market mentors.

Upon successful completion of the programme, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the culture of modern China and foreign investment incentives
  • Learn practical market intelligence and be exposed to New Retail opportunities and strategies in Beijing and Shanghai
  • Gain an understanding of the business environment of modern China including commercial laws, accounting and tax, and financial services

    - Investment incentives
    - Fashion retail business in China
    - New Retail opportunities and challenges in the Chinese market
  • Dinner hosted by SingCham + Discussion on
    - Understanding Beijing retail markets and opportunities for New Retail
    - Networking with potential partners

  • Workshop on Offline, Online, Offline Transformation Strategy
  • Site Visit 2: CapitaMall (Wangjing)
    - Sharing by Capitaland on Capitaland's strengths and New Retail strategy
    -  Panel discussion by selected Capitaland tennants
    - Visit to selected tennants at CapitaMall
  • Tour of Haidilao (fully automated restaurant) + Dinner


Day 4

  • Beijing to Shanghai


Day 5 (Shanghai)

  • Site Visit 3: Hema Shanghai and Robot.He (Robot restaurant at Hema (Alibaba-backed) Supermarket) + Discussion on New Retail technologies
  • Site Visit 4: Starbucks Reserve Roastery and VR Show + Discussion on New Retail concepts wth automation
  • Workshop on Implementation of Digital Strategies for Retail


Day 6 (Shanghai)

    - Interaction with UOB clients on New Retail Strategies

Assessment

Participants will be awarded a Certificate of Completion by SMU upon completion of the programme.

Fees and Funding

SkillsFuture Series
Course fee grant at 70% of course fees (excluding GST) for participants who are successfully enrolled by SMU into approved courses under the Programme. Participants must be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents.

SkillsFuture Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy ("MCES")
Up to 90% of course fees for Singapore Citizens aged 40 years and above.

Enhanced Training Support for SMEs ("ETSS")
Up to 90% of course fees; and 80% of basic hourly salary capped at $7.50/hr for local employees of SMEs.

SkillsFuture Credit
Singapore Citizens aged 25 and above, and self-funding the course may use their SkillsFuture Credit (up to S$500) to defray part of the course fee. 


The total fee for the 7-day programme is: S$9,200 per participant

Nett fee payable after SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) Funding for Individuals:

  • S$2,760 for Singapore Citizens and Singapore Permanent Residents
  • S$920 for Singapore Citizens aged 40 years and above

Note: Airfare from Singapore to Beijing, Beijing to Shanghai and Shanghai to Singapore will be borne by participants.
