By the end of the course, you will be able to

  • understand strategy as a choice of trade-offs and procedures in making strategic decisions; analyse the challenges companies face during strategic change; and create logical and feasible action plans to successfully implement strategic change.



This course is credit-bearing and can be stackable to a master degree. Upon its completion, you will be awarded a transcript and 0.5 CU as part of SMU's Master of Science in Communication Management.

This course is designed for you if you are responsible for supporting or managing strategic communication functions in your organisation or if you are keen to gain a better understanding of the strategies to enhance corporate reputation.


Preferably, you should be someone who has attained a good Bachelor's degree. Polytechnic graduates with at least three years of relevant working experience are welcome to apply.

Geng Xuesong

Assistant Professor of Strategy, Della Suantio Fellow


Dr Geng Xuesong obtained his PhD from the University of Toronto. His expertise lies in innovation, corporate governance, new digital economies, and governmental policies. He studies firm behaviours in the United States, China, Japan and South East Asia. His research has been published in top academic journals.

Prior to commencing his PhD studies, Xuesong worked as a senior strategy analyst in a large state-owned listed company in China, providing strategic analysis and advice for top management teams. He has had consulting experience with Sinopipe Holding Ltd and several SMEs and start-ups. In addition, he writes commentaries for Lianhe Zaobao regularly.
