Who Should Attend
- Young graduates or early-career professionals who are exploring a new career in Fintech and would like to undergo a structured and rigorous industry-relevant programme
- Professionals who are already working at the intersection of finance and technology and who wish to keep abreast with latest fintech knowledge, applications, and trends
- Finance or Tech professionals who are currently leading teams in related industries and would like to plug their knowledge gaps in finance and/ or technology
- Industry regulators from central monetary authorities, law enforcers of financial crime etc., who are seeking a systemic perspective on the disruptions to financial services and monetary system
PREREQUISITES
- No prerequisites, but participants are strongly encouraged to go through the assigned pre-reading materials and videos, especially if one does not have any prior learning or working knowledge in the subject matter of this Module
- If the participant intends to register for the Chartered Fintech Professional examination following the completion of this training course, do note that an undergraduate degree from a recognised university or equivalent professional qualification is a compulsory enrolment requirement
Overview
Module 2 provides a comprehensive overview of the key concepts and technologies of blockchain and it will be valuable for anyone who wants to design or use blockchain-based applications. The module starts with an introduction to cryptography and an overview of existing consensus algorithms. It will provide a detailed discussion on the Bitcoin script and an introduction to the Ethereum blockchain. The true potential of the fourth industrial revolution can only be achieved when innovation and technology become a key element of the existing financial system. Hence, the module also examines the basic design, types, benefits and challenges of Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) and stablecoins. It details the risks on blockchain by examining different types of blockchain faults, the issues of blockchain privacy, the principles of a good token economy design and game theory in token economy design.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the 2-day module, participants will be able to:
- Understand the role and the objectives of cryptography in ensuring information security
- Know the different types of consensus algorithms
- Learn the application of the Reverse Polish Notation (RPN) for bitcoin transactions
- Learn the applications of smart contracts and the role of Ethereum in a blockchain network
- Understand the basic types and design of CBDCs, the benefits, challenges, and enabling factors of CBDCs
- Understand the fundamental concepts and different types of stablecoins
- Distinguish the different types of attacks to privacy and privacy technologies used in blockchain
- Understand the types of faults in a network and the importance of authentication, scalability, and a synchronous environment
- Know the different types of token-less and token-based blockchains and their features and applications
- Identify the elements of an effective token economy
- Appreciate the considerations to utilise and design a blockchain
- Learn about the token design and use of game theory in the token economy
Assessment
As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of the course. The mode of assessment, which is up to the trainer’s discretion, may be an online quiz, a presentation or based on classroom exercises.
Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment in order to receive a digital Certificate of Completion issued by Singapore Management University.

- Organisation must be registered or incorporated in Singapore
