Overview

Enhance Educational Therapy Practice through Behavioural Issues and Intervention.

This course focuses on key skill areas and intervention goals in educational therapy, emphasising three key aspects namely assessment, client strengths, and case management. Participants will explore effective assessment techniques to identify learning needs and establish baseline competencies. They will also learn how to recognise and leverage client strengths to create personalised intervention goals that foster engagement and progress.

Additionally, the course covers best practices in case management, including collaboration with families and educators to support holistic student development. By the end of the course, learners will be equipped with practical strategies to enhance their practice in educational therapy.

Note: This module is part of a sequential programme and is not available on a standalone basis.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the 2-day module, participants will be able to:

  • Recognise the presenting problems as the manifestation of the underlying learning and/ or behavioural issues
  • Develop student awareness of own strengths and promote student’s strategic use of strengths to foster effective learning and self-regulation
  • Understand the student’s learning and/ or behavioural issues in relation to client context: in the home, school, community and culture
  • Learn to coordinate services and resources to support students with diverse needs to promote educational and emotional well-being

Assessment

As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of the course. Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment in order to receive a digital Certificate of Completion.

  • Organisation must be registered or incorporated in Singapore
  • Employment size of not more than 200 or with annual sales turnover of not more than $100 million
  • Trainees must be hired in accordance with the Employment Act and fully sponsored by their employers for the course
  • Trainees must be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
  • Trainees must not be a full-time national serviceman

Managing Principal Educational Diagnostician & Therapist
Merlion Paediatric

Dr Chia is a specialist in language and literacy education, special education, psychology, and dyslexia, with nearly 30 years of professional experience. He holds a Doctorate of Education from the University of Western Australia and is double board-certified by the Association of Educational Therapists (AET) and the American Association of Special Needs Professionals (AASEP). He also holds an advanced credential in reading therapy from the International Association of Counselors and Therapists (IACT), and two Fellow diplomas in literacy and dyslexia from UK institutions. A former associate professor at the National Institute of Education (NTU), Dr Chia has served in various academic and governmental roles, including as a committee member for the Ministry of Social & Family. He was a Lee Kong Chian Research Fellow (2010), a visiting professor at the University of St. Joseph (Macau), and an editorial board member of the European Journal of Special Education Research. He is currently an honorary fellow of the Reading Specialists’ Association Singapore (HonFRSAS), 2nd vice president of the Early Years Research Association of Singapore (EYRAS), and a special needs consultant working across East and Southeast Asia.
