This module is presented in the following blended learning format:

3.5 hours: Synchronous e-Learning (Weekday, 9am-12.30pm)
3.5 hours: Asynchronous e-Learning
7 hours: Classroom Training (Weekday, 9am-5pm)

Who Should Attend

This programme is aimed at educators and organisational leaders who are keen to understand and leverage Edtech to innovate from within the institutions and learning organisations. The programme is specifically designed for those who seek to integrate new technologies and tools into the learning process.

 

PREREQUISITES

Participants should preferably be an educator or leader of a school, university, learning teams/ organisation, or Edtech startups.

Overview

In Module 3, participants will gain a deeper understanding on the transformative capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI) and ChatGPT, an advanced conversational AI model, in shaping learning experiences. Participants will delve into the theoretical foundations, technical aspects, and ethical considerations of AI, while gaining hands-on experience with ChatGPT and understanding its current and potential uses. Embracing this new wave of emerging technology becomes crucial for learning institutions as AI continues to accelerate its adoption in the educational landscape. This module also covers different types of emerging AI technologies, expanding the horizons of educational possibilities and highlighting the advantages they bring to the learning environment and institutions.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the 2-day module, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the fundamentals of AI technologies
  • Embracing AI to improve curriculum, student experience and engagement
  • Familiarise with how Generative AI and ChatGPT are impacting education
  • Discuss the ethical considerations and best practices for responsible AI use in education

Assessment

As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of the course. The mode of assessment, which is up to the trainer’s discretion, may be an online quiz, a presentation or based on classroom exercises.

Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment in order to receive a digital Certificate of Completion issued by Singapore Management University.

Ivan is the Head of Startups, Public Sector at Amazon Web Services. He leads a team to build the Asia Pacific ecosystem of startups that operate in the public sector space. He drives cloud adoption and supports regional and technical sales teams, working with CTOs and CIOs to drive digital innovation and transformation. 

Ivan is an experienced consultant specialising in government projects in areas of strategy, user research, and implementation. He also specialises in the use of design thinking principles to help companies and organisations understand the needs, wants and desires of their client and end-users. 

Previously, he was Head of Strategy and Policy in Singapore's Ministry of Education overseeing the university sector with management experience and in-depth knowledge and contacts of leading and emerging universities in key education markets (US, EU, Australia, and other APAC). He is also experienced in long-term strategic planning for universities and vocation training sectors, including manpower modelling and financial projections. 

Ivan is an experienced educator for grades 7 to 12. He is not only experienced with the use and implementation of Information Technology in education, but also in many educational frameworks for optimal educational outcomes.

Jim is an educator and entrepreneur whose practical experience, teaching practice, and research expertise centre on digital pedagogy–specifically, the application of AI in teaching and learning. In 2018, Jim co-founded Noodle Factory, an AI-powered teaching and learning platform that supports differentiated instruction.

Jim began his career in the technology sector, working at Dell Technologies, Brocade Communications, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise in various customer-facing, general management, and executive roles. Most recently, Jim was vice president and general manager of Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s data storage business unit in the APJ region.

Jim earned his master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Liverpool (UK). His ongoing research focuses on how educators can reliably and safely harness the power of digital capabilities to support teaching and learning. Jim has also earned his post-doctoral diploma in academic practice in coordination with the Fellowship for Higher Education in the UK, where his current work includes action research related to the impact of generative AI in teaching and learning.

Through his work with Noodle Factory, Jim has the opportunity to work with teachers and instructors at all levels of education across many disciplines and faculties. Jim has advised and assisted dozens of secondary and tertiary educational institutions and educators in applying generative and conversational AI to teaching and learning. Jim is also currently involved in supporting the work of action researchers studying the impact of generative AI in teaching and learning at the University of London, Lusófona University (Portugal), Auckland University of Technology (AUT) in New Zealand, and the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) in Singapore.
