Overview
This module will introduce participants to the concepts of the “Metaverse” and “Web 3.0” and provide a framework for understanding how the law might evolve to deal with the challenges posed by these new technological frontiers. They will also learn how to deal with Web 3.0 and its relationship to the Metaverse.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the 2-day module, participants will be able to:
Gain a brief introduction to foundational technologies, including Blockchain (and its applications, cryptocurrencies, tokens, and Smart Contracts), Augmented and Virtual Reality
- Understand how to apply the law in layers: law in the Metaverse, law of the Metaverse, law governing the Metaverse, and law of the location
- Appreciate concepts such as user agreements/ terms of use, choice of law and choice of jurisdiction, and the applicability of criminal, civil, data protection and censorship laws
- Gain an understanding of decentralised finance, the gig economy, and the democratisation of the internet
- Learn how to critically analyse the Web 3.0 movement and craft a strategy for approaching it
Assessment
As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of the course. The mode of assessment, which is up to the trainer’s discretion, may be an online quiz, a presentation or based on classroom exercises.
Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment in order to receive a digital Certificate of Completion issued by Singapore Management University.
CPD POINTS
Participants will be able to earn 12 CPD Points awarded by Singapore Institute of Legal Education when they attend this course.
Participants who wish to obtain CPD Points are reminded that they must comply strictly with the Attendance Policy set out in the CPD Guidelines. For this activity, this includes signing in on arrival and signing out at the conclusion of the activity in the manner required by the organiser, and not being absent from the entire activity for more than 15 minutes. SkillsFuture Credit
Singapore Citizens aged 25 and above may use their SkillsFuture Credits to pay for the course fees. The credits may be used on top of existing course fee funding.

Enhanced Training Support for SMEs (ETSS)
- Organisation must be registered or incorporated in Singapore
- Employment size of not more than 200 or with annual sales turnover of not more than $100 million
- Trainees must be hired in accordance with the Employment Act and fully sponsored by their employers for the course
- Trainees must be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
- Trainees must not be a full-time national serviceman
