Overview

For the past decade, many industries (including government) have been transformed by digital technology. Businesses across the board are concerned about being disrupted by technology.

This programme focuses on Information Technology (IT) trends, digital transformation strategies, and organisational change management. It aims to provide participants with the understanding needed to leverage the latest IT trends for business transformation. During the course, participants will work on an outline of their organisation’s digital transformation strategy, which they can apply within their own organisation.

Participants will also be equipped with a methodology to build and implement a digital transformation strategy, addressing not only technology but also business processes and organisational change. This, in turn, is intended to enhance participants' ability to deliver strategic value to their organisation or improve their prospects in the job market.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the 2-day programme, participants will be able to:

  • Understand key technology trends, their use cases, and best practices
  • Propose digital business transformation strategies to help organisations gain a competitive advantage
  • Apply change management best practices in a business setting and be an effective business change agent

Assessment

As part of the requirement for Skills and Workforce Development Agency (SWDA), there will be an assessment conducted at the end of the course. The mode of assessment, which is up to the trainer’s discretion, may be an online quiz, a presentation or based on classroom exercises.

Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment in order to receive a digital Certificate of Completion issued by SMU Academy.

Testimonials

The course was highly insightful, practical and engaging. Coming from the business side, I often found AI discussions overwhelming when they focused heavily on coding and technical innovation.

The programme changed my perspective, particularly on how business and technology teams can collaborate and how hackathons can start with real business problems.

The real-life case studies from DBS, TraceTogether and SP Power brought the concepts to life and showed how AI and digital transformation can address real business challenges. I also gained a stronger understanding of digital transformation strategies and change management frameworks such as Kotter’s 8-Step Process.

Prof Wong’s experience, enthusiasm and practical insights made complex topics easy to understand. Overall, it was a valuable investment that challenged me to think differently, lead change and prepare for the future.

I personally found the course very valuable in my own area of work. While it was a short two-day programme, it provided a holistic view of how business strategy intersects with technology.

I learnt how to make more intentional business decisions to support innovation and experimentation within my own business units. Prof Wong also helped demystify technology by showing how problems can sometimes be solved through straightforward technical solutions, rather than over-indexing on the “blingy” idea of AI, by first defining the right business problem.

I loved how the frameworks were brought to life through real-world case studies from DBS and GovTech. Prof Wong is also a treasure trove of wisdom, openly sharing his experiences of navigating tough decisions and trade-offs throughout the evolution of IT, which felt very relevant to what the world is going through today.

A special shoutout to Prof Wong for his dedication and high energy throughout the sessions. He kept everyone engaged throughout, and I barely needed to look at the slides to keep up! Thank you, Professor. I would highly recommend this course.
