Overview

Learn the fundamentals of technologies known to us today from Deep Learning to Extended Reality, explore new opportunities and gain insights into these emerging trends.

Learning Objectives

  • Gain exposure to systems and tools to handle tabular data (Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, SQL DBMS)
  • Understand how Artificial Intelligence is programmed to imitate human intelligence and think like a human
  • Understand the concepts of Immersive Media and the Extended Realities (VR/ AR/ MR)
  • Understand what “digital making” is, and how it applies to modern prototyping with electronics
  • Understand what is a blockchain, how and why it works
  • Understand the classification of cloud computing products into categories Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-service (PaaS) and Software-as-aService (SaaS)

To achieve the Certificate in Technology Foundations, participants will need to complete the following modules offered by SMU Academy:

Fengrun is an IT trainer and freelance network engineer with 8 years of experience educating corporate users and school students about network security and web development. He started out in the semiconductor industry making tiny chips that let your mobile phone connect to WiFi. He eventually left that industry and started his career in network engineering in a local SME and then Singtel Mobile. Nowadays he teaches programming to students and builds secured LAN networks for offices. In between these jobs, he works on backend web development projects for corporate customers. Constantly staying ahead of patches and firmware updates keeps him very busy.

Huang Bin holds a Master of Science in Computation for Design and Optimisation from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. On completion of his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, he was awarded a First Class Honors by NUS School of Computing and the IEEE Gold Medal (Top student in Computer Engineering), and was honoured to be picked as the reserve Valedictorian for his 2009 cohort. Huang Bin has extensive experience in teaching and tutoring which enables him to communicate technical details to a wide audience. During his time at Barclays, he was a C++ programmer with previous experience of C#, Java and C. Using his expertise, he designed and implemented IT solutions covering trade flow, data analytics and risk control of the award-winning trading platform.

As a quant risk manager at Barclays Investment Bank, he refined his skills in data analysis, risk engine programming, and financial modeling in Python, R, VB.NET, and FORTRAN. Aside from software development, Kah Wei has also built and structured the technical content of the company's flagship Mixed Reality Developer Course. Since 2017, he has helped hundreds of students take their first step into Mixed Reality.
