Overview

This course will explore the core economic principles driving the clean energy transition, including cost dynamics, market structures, policy incentives, and investment considerations.

Through a mix of facilitated learning, hands-on exercises, and peer discussions, the course will demystify the economics behind renewable energy technologies such as solar, wind, battery storage, and green hydrogen.
 

Learning Objectives

By the end of the 2-day course, participants will be able to:

  • Gain a strategic understanding of the clean energy economy
  • Develop the ability to evaluate clean energy projects using key financial and economic tools, including Levelised Cost of Energy (LCOE), payback periods, and cost-benefit analysis
  • Explore how subsidies, carbon pricing, and regulatory frameworks influence clean energy deployment and investment
  • Learn from industry leaders and interact with peers across energy, finance, and policy sectors through facilitated discussions and group exercises

Assessment

As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of the course. The mode of assessment, which is up to the trainer’s discretion, may be an online quiz, a presentation or based on classroom exercises.

Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment in order to receive a digital Certificate of Completion issued by Singapore Management University.

Enhanced Training Support for SMEs (ETSS)

  • Organisation must be registered or incorporated in Singapore
  • Employment size of not more than 200 or with annual sales turnover of not more than $100 million
  • Trainees must be hired in accordance with the Employment Act and fully sponsored by their employers for the course
  • Trainees must be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
  • Trainees must not be a full-time national serviceman

With over 20 years of experience in the field of clean energy and decarbonisation, Nilesh is a passionate champion of accelerating the net-zero transition for organisations and communities. He is the Head of Sustainability Advisory (ASEAN) at Siemens, Smart Infrastructure-Buildings, where he leads the delivery of end-to-end decarbonisation solutions and digital services for sustainability. He is previously the founder and CEO of Qi Square Pte Ltd, a Singapore company focused on digitising the building industry for a sustainable future. He is also a passionate clean energy technopreneur. His experience spans across technology development, operations management, R&D outfits, and start-ups in the clean energy space. He has been actively involved in clean energy policy development through participation in projects such as Singapore’s Energy roadmaps with NCCS and sitting on boards of government and semi-government institutions such as the Sustainable Energy Association (SEAS) and Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC). He has been involved in writing the Technology Primers on Smart Grids and Solar Technologies for the National Climate Change Secretariat (NCCS, Singapore) and also was the project lead for developing Singapore’s first Technology Roadmap in the area of Energy Efficient Building Technologies with the Building Construction Authority (BCA) of Singapore. He is also a published author with his book: Green & Smart Buildings - advanced technology options, Springer, 2016.
