PREREQUISITES

There are no prerequisites for this programme. Prior knowledge on any of the topics is not required. Prior experience with Microsoft Excel at a basic/ foundational level will be useful but is not essential.

Overview

Using data analytics is a very effective way to have influence at the workplace. If you’re in a meeting and other people have opinions, but you have data to support your arguments and your recommendations, you’re going to be influential.

Enterprise Analytics – the use of data analysis and data science to drive what organisations do and how they do it – is now a fundamental skillset that is required to succeed in all sectors of advanced economies. As a result, we all face the challenge of developing an ability to design and execute “data driven” initiatives at the workplace.

This course is designed as a first step in a learning journey that will build these blended capabilities, covering the execution of specific analytics techniques alongside frameworks guiding the design of data driven initiatives. Taking a real-world case featuring challenges from Finance, Marketing, Service, Operations, and Strategy, this course will lead participants through a set of practical sessions providing an overview of the principal enterprise analytics techniques.

To delve further into the topic, participants may consider Data Analytics @ Work 201 after completing this course.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the 2-day course, participants will be able to:

  • Formulate a data-driven initiative using the CRISP and OKR techniques

  • Profile and mine data for insight using calculated measures
  • Use data visualisation techniques to reveal hidden patterns
  • Apply statistical techniques to understand systems
  • Create indicator metrics and indicators to guide strategic decisions
  • Forecast trends and create predictive models

Assessment

As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of the course. The mode of assessment, which is up to the trainer’s discretion, may be an online quiz, a presentation or based on classroom exercises.

Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment in order to receive a digital Certificate of Completion issued by Singapore Management University.
