Overview

A good understanding of finance is key to making informed business decisions critical to the growth and performance of an organisation. However, non-finance professionals are often challenged with interpreting and communicating financial goals and outcomes with senior management and stakeholders.

This is a 3-day course designed for anyone with no prior experience in finance. The course provides a structured approach to understanding financial statements. There will be explanations of mathematical concepts used in finance, and investment analysis tools for capital budgeting will be introduced, allowing non-finance professionals to harness financial information for decision making and strategic planning. Corporate finance techniques used to facilitate business growth and activities, will also be discussed.

Learning Objectives

  • Make informed, strategic decisions to drive businesses forward
  • Engage in discussions across a range of financial topics with financial and non-financial stakeholders
  • Understand terminology and concepts used in finance
  • Research and extract data from company financial statements
  • Understand the process of growth through Corporate Finance activities of Mergers & Acquisitions and LBOs
  • Learn key concepts and alternative funding options from different types of bank debt and debt capital markets

Assessment

As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of the course. The mode of assessment, which is up to the trainer’s discretion, may be an online quiz, a presentation or based on classroom exercises.

Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment in order to receive a digital Certificate of Completion issued by Singapore Management University.
