PREREQUISITES

Participant should have at least

  • a Bachelor's Degree or
  • Diploma with at least 3 years working experience

Overview

The module focuses on types of analytics and the role it plays in data-driven decision making culture and especially for financial planning and analysis. It will cover the key challenges in accounting data analysis ranging from collection and categorisation to data modelling and analysis of data.

At the end of the course, participants will learn how to:

  • perform accounting data analysis process
  • use Excel in accounting practice  and know its benefits & limitations
  • be exposed to other data analytics tools.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand how data analytics may be applied to financial planning and analysis to enhance its effectiveness
  • Understand steps to perform accounting data analysis process
  • Explain the key challenges in accounting data analysis process ranging from collection, categorisation to data modelling

Participants will be able to earn 14 CPD Points awarded by CPA Australia when they attend this module.

Assessment

As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of the course. The mode of assessment, which is up to the trainer’s discretion, may be an online quiz, a presentation or based on classroom exercises.

Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment in order to receive a digital Certificate of Completion issued by Singapore Management University.

Enhanced Training Support for SMEs (ETSS)

  • Organisation must be registered or incorporated in Singapore
  • Employment size of not more than 200 or with annual sales turnover of not more than $100 million
  • Trainees must be hired in accordance with the Employment Act and fully sponsored by their employers for the course
  • Trainees must be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
  • Trainees must not be a full-time national serviceman

Swapna is an Assistant Professor of Information Systems (Education) and Associate Dean (Undergraduate Education) at the School of Computing and Information Systems, Singapore Management University. Her research spans text analytics, natural language processing, opinion mining, and machine learning, applied across diverse domains like software, education, security, and mobile. Previously a senior instructor, her teaching covers data management, data mining, business intelligence, and software engineering. With a background in consulting for banking, finance, and mobile projects, she has designed, developed, and supported various software systems.

Venky Shankararaman?is the Vice Provost (Undergraduate Matters) and a Professor of Information Systems (Education) at the School of Computing and Information Systems, Singapore Management University. He holds a PhD in Engineering from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK. His current areas of specialization include business process management and analytics, enterprise systems architecture and integration, and education pedagogy. He has over 25 years of experience in the IT industry in various capacities as a researcher, academic faculty member, IT professional and industry consultant. Venky has designed and delivered professional courses for government and industry in areas such as business process management and analytics, enterprise architecture, technical architecture, and enterprise integration. He has published over 65 papers in academic journals and conferences.
