This one-week stay in San Francisco has been incredibly invigorating as I had a glimpse of the highly connected and energised culture in Silicon Valley. We met innovators, entrepreneurs, and tech enthusiasts who are passionate about their vision, often pushing boundaries, failing, and then restarting again. I am pleased to say that I gained much more than I had anticipated in this overseas immersion programme using Skillsfuture credits. There are plenty of personal development takeaways, including learning about the many amazing stories and people I met and networked with during this SF trip. One thing that struck me on this trip was the concept of "failures," as 90% of startups fail. I learned that you could have a brilliant idea, but if the timing is not right, one can fail in execution too. This experience taught me that there is no end to learning and growth, and I will definitely be putting these lessons into practice in the workplace. I strongly recommend all working professionals to sign up for this SMU course and benefit from this priceless experience.

I had the privilege of engaging with startups, forging connections with venture capitalists, and connecting with those who had found their calling in this dynamic hub. What truly set this experience apart was the unwavering enthusiasm, driven by a shared inspiration to venture beyond the confines of Singapore and explore the limitless possibilities of Silicon Valley. Leading the way was Programme Director Ivan Chang, the perfect guide for such an endeavour, who provided us access to his invaluable network and in-depth knowledge of this extraordinary place.

The SMU Internationalisation Series is an excellent course that provides valuable insights into businesses and how they operate, highlighting their differences from Singapore. The course introduces the startup industry in San Francisco and outlines the expectations from an investor's perspective. Additionally, it offers valuable lessons on the tech industry, spanning from its history in the early 1950s to contemporary developments such as Web 3.0. Moreover, the course teaches us how to understand technology trends and how both the industry and consumers respond to them.

I've gained a lot from this course, and this knowledge enables me to better lead my team and company. As a technology company providing services to clients, this course equips me with the knowledge to execute and determine when to adopt the latest technology. From a business perspective, I now better understand investor viewpoints, which prepares me for future business expansions.

I'm grateful to the course instructor, Ivan Chang, for his profound knowledge and his ability to impart it effectively. Overall, the SMU team has done an excellent job administering the program. They ensured that all course objectives were met, and all scheduled events and meetings were conducted promptly and professionally. The team's professionalism and helpfulness truly made the course memorable and enjoyable.
