Overview

As the second-largest economy in Southeast Asia, Thailand has sustained strong growth with its rapidly modernising economy and transforming into a competitive country with a strong urban centre. With a large population of 71 million, a rising consumer economy, as well as a qualified and skilled workforce, Thailand is an ideal destination for Singapore firms to expand to while taking advantage of its trade infrastructure to connect with fast-growing CLMV (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam) markets and economic giants like China and India.

SMU Academy’s Internationalisation Series: Understanding Business Opportunities for New Ventures in Bangkok, aims to help entrepreneurs and business owners understand the opportunities and challenges of starting a business in Bangkok. Participants will also gain practical knowledge and insights into navigating the city's diverse business environment and networking with local entrepreneurs.

Assessment

As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of the course. The mode of assessment, which is up to the trainer’s discretion, may be an online quiz, a presentation or based on classroom exercises.

Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment in order to receive a digital Certificate of Completion issued by Singapore Management University.

SkillsFuture Credit

Singapore Citizens aged 25 and above may use their SkillsFuture Credits to pay for the course fees. The credits may be used on top of existing course fee funding.

Enhanced Training Support for SMEs (ETSS)

  • Organisation must be registered or incorporated in Singapore
  • Employment size of not more than 200 or with annual sales turnover of not more than $100 million
  • Trainees must be hired in accordance with the Employment Act and fully sponsored by their employers for the course
  • Trainees must be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
  • Trainees must not be a full-time national serviceman

Jun Hao, the Programme Director, is a community leader, investor and entrepreneur who has successfully led and achieved​ multiple business exits. He graduated from Imperial College London with M.Eng (First Class Honours) in​ Aeronautical Engineering and was named Department Aeronautics Scholar. A recipient of the prestigious​ Singapore Armed Forces Overseas Scholarship under Public Service Commission, Jun Hao served in the​ Singapore Armed Forces and the Government of Singapore where he was groomed in key appointments ​including as a Military Private Secretary to the current Minister in Prime Minister’s Office.​ As a COO of a Single Family Office that invests in Private Equity, Private Credit and Real Estates, Jun Hao​ currently serves Chairmanship roles in his portfolio companies as well as on the Board of Directors or Board of ​Advisors in multiple Chambers of Commerce, Business Associations and non-profit entities. He further serves as​ an Affiliate Faculty Member at Singapore Management University and is also pursuing an MBA at Harvard​ Business School.
