Who Should Attend
Participants keen to pursue roles in User Interface and User Experience, such as UI/UX Designer or Associate UI/UX Designer.
Trainees must meet all the requirements below in order to be eligible to apply for the programme:
- Singapore Citizen, Singapore Permanent Resident or LTVP+ holder
- At least 21 years old

Overview
This certificate programme is designed to allow participants to embark on a transformative journey into the world of UI/UX design. From user research and wireframing to visual design and accessibility, participants will master the art of crafting intuitive digital experiences. By the end of the programme, participants will have gained hands-on skills and built a portfolio that allows them to step confidently into the role of an associate UI/UX designer.

Learning Objectives
At the end of the 12-week programme, participants will be able to:
- Acquire a good understanding of digital marketing principles, encompassing various channels, audience analysis, content strategy, and social media
- Acquire a strong foundation in UI/UX design principles, mastering the essentials of creating user-centered digital experiences
- Develop practical skills through interactive exercises, real-world projects, and collaborative activities, fostering a deep understanding of the design process
- Build a compelling portfolio showcasing diverse UI/UX projects, demonstrating expertise in research, design, prototyping, and usability testing
- Learn to design across various platforms, devices, and contexts, adapting designs for responsiveness and accessibility, while collaborating effectively with developers
- Build the skills and confidence to step into an Associate UI/UX Designer role, equipped to contribute to design teams and create impactful user experiences
Topic/Structure
To achieve the (SCTP) Advanced Certificate in UI/UX Essentials for UI/UX Designer, participants will need to complete the following modules offered by SMU Academy:
Module 1: Introduction to UI/UX Fundamentals
This module provides an overview of UI/UX design and the responsibilities associated with being a UI/UX designer. Participants will acquire a strong foundation in UI/UX design principles, mastering the essentials of creating user-centred digital experiences, such as through conducting user research and creating personas. It will also cover basic concepts in information architecture and wireframing.
Module 2: Design Principles and User Testing
Building on the foundational knowledge introduced in the first module, the second module will delve into visual design principles, interaction design, and prototyping. Participants will be tasked with applying these principles through hands-on projects. Furthermore, participants will also learn the importance of usability and conducting user testing with the prototypes they design.
Module 3: Enhancing the User Experience
In this third module, it focuses on enhancing user experience. Participants will acquire the skills to create designs that transcend across various platforms, devices, and contexts, adapting designs for responsiveness and accessibility, and taking into account the impact of how microinteractions and animations can shape the user’s experience of a product.
Module 4: Collaboration and the Final Capstone
In this concluding module, participants will learn how designers are able to collaborate effectively with other members of a product team, particularly product managers and software developers. They will embark on a capstone project, applying the skills acquired across all four modules to design, , prototype and test a complete UI/UX solution for a specific problem. Participants will also be given guidance on creating a compelling portfolio, showcasing diverse UI/UX projects, demonstrating expertise in research, design, prototyping, and usability testing. As a result, they will be equipped to contribute to design teams and create impactful user experiences.
Assessment
As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of every module. The mode of assessment, which is up to the trainer’s discretion, may be an online quiz, a presentation or based on classroom exercises.
Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment for each of the 4 modules in order to be awarded the digital (SCTP) Advanced Certificate in UI/UX Essentials for UI/UX Designer issued by Singapore Management University.

SkillsFuture Credit
Singapore Citizens aged 25 and above may use their SkillsFuture Credits to pay for the course fees. The credits may be used on top of existing course fee funding.
