Engineering and Design professionals (Engineering manager, Designers, Process engineer, Product designer, Product manager, Product engineer) in the Precision Engineering, Contract Manufacturing, Industrial Design and Prototyping industries.
Overview
Balancing theory and hands-on activities, this programme encourages creating designs respecting inclusivity and sustainability, devising plans for sustainable manufacturing, and formulating green strategies. By the end of the programme, learners will acquire the essential skills to seamlessly integrate sustainability into their respective professional practices.
Sustainable Living Lab (SL2) is a sustainability consultancy and innovation lab founded in Singapore in 2011, specialising in creating and implementing rapidly evolving, impactful solutions. Their expertise lies in leveraging technology, as a tool for sustainability, with a strong emphasis on a community-driven approach to implementation.
SL2's practical yet ambitious approach has helped them build a client base across governments, international development organisations, leading multinational corporations (MNCs), and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Headquartered in Singapore, they have established a strong presence in Asia and beyond, with strategically located offices in India, Indonesia, and the United States enabling them to effectively engage, understand, and tailor their solutions to specific contexts.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the 3-day programme, participants will be able to:
- Analyse and interpret the principles of sustainable engineering, considering how these principles interact with ethical standards and professional practices
- Evaluate and construct design solutions that not only align with sustainability, inclusivity, and accessibility guidelines but also respect intellectual property rights, demonstrating the application of ethics in decision-making processes
- Synthesise strategies to enhance resource efficiency and reduce hazards in manufacturing operations, employing problem-solving skills and strategic planning to promote sustainable practices in the manufacturing environment
- Develop and justify a comprehensive green manufacturing strategy that balances the imperative to reduce waste, conserve energy, and replace hazardous substances
- Develop ethical design guidelines that respect intellectual property rights and promote inclusivity, while integrating sustainability principles

Assessment

Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment in order to receive a digital Certificate of Completion issued by Singapore Management University.

Enhanced Training Support for SMEs (ETSS)
- Organisation must be registered or incorporated in Singapore
- Employment size of not more than 200 or with annual sales turnover of not more than $100 million
- Trainees must be hired in accordance with the Employment Act and fully sponsored by their employers for the course
- Trainees must be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
- Trainees must not be a full-time national serviceman
