Overview
Learning analytics which is defined as the measurement and dissection of data about learners used to optimise their learning experience can provide powerful tools for teachers in order to support them in the iterative process of improving the effectiveness of their lessons and to collaterally enhance their students’ performance. The goal of learning analytics is to enable teachers and schools to tailor educational opportunities to each student's level of need and ability to close-to-real time.
For students to change and get themselves to adapt to a new way of learning, it is important to help teachers get ahead of that change. And with the right kind of learning analytical tool, teachers can surely have a strong grip over each student’s individual needs, capacities and interests. In this boot camp, participants will develop a solid understanding of fundamental learning analytics theories and processes, and explore different types of educational data. By grasping these fundamental areas, they will have a better understanding of the field of learning analytics and be able to apply skills to improve student learning and school performance. The emphasis is to enable school leaders to improve school operations and for teachers to improve teaching effectiveness, by applying data-driven decision-making in schools.
Learning Objectives
- Understand how to personalise students’ learning process through analysis of classroom data to reveal insights on students’ learning needs, behaviours and mindset
- Adopt data visualisation skills to enhance interaction and engagement when communicating with stakeholders, educationists and decision-makers
- Understand how to craft learning experiences and design interesting curriculum according to the learning style and preference of the students as well as the teachers
- Strengthen ability to spot any unconscious biases towards the assessment of performance
Assessment
As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of the course. The mode of assessment, which is up to the trainer’s discretion, may be an online quiz, a presentation or based on classroom exercises.
