This module is part of SMU-CPA Australia Finance Game Changer Series.

The module focuses on types of analytics and the role it plays in data-driven decision making culture and especially for financial planning and analysis. It will cover the key challenges in accounting data analysis ranging from collection and categorisation to data modelling and analysis of data.

At the end of the course, participants will learn how to:

  • perform accounting data analysis process
  • use Excel in accounting practice  and know its benefits & limitations
  • be exposed to other data analytics tools.

Fees and Funding

Course fee grant at 70% of course fees (excluding GST) for participants who are successfully enrolled by SMU into approved courses under the Programme. Participants must be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents.

Up to 90% of course fees for Singapore Citizens aged 40 years and above

Venky Shankararaman 
Professor of Information Systems (Education) 
Deputy Dean, Practice & Education 

Venky Shankararaman is a Professor of Information Systems (Education) and Associate Dean (Education) at the School of Information Systems, Singapore Management University. He holds a PhD in Engineering from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK. His current areas of specialization include business process management and analytics, enterprise systems architecture and integration, and education pedagogy. He has over 25 years of experience in the IT industry in various capacities as a researcher, academic faculty member, IT professional and industry consultant.

Venky has designed and delivered professional courses for government and industry in areas such as business process management and analytics, enterprise architecture, technical architecture, and enterprise integration. He has published over 65 papers in academic journals and conferences. 

Swapna Gottipati
Assistant Professor of Information Systems (Education) 
Programme Director, BSc (IS) Information Systems Major

Swapna Gottipati is an Assistant Professor (Education) of Information Systems and Management at the School of Information Systems, Singapore Management University. Her research interests include text analytics, natural language processing, information extraction, opinion mining, machine learning and social networking. Her main focus is to enhance data mining models while she applies her research findings to other domains; software, education, security, mobile etc. Previously, she was a senior instructor and her teaching profile includes courses related to data management, data mining and analytics, business intelligence, business process management, enterprise integration and software engineering. Prior to joining SMU, she worked as a consultant for banking, financial and mobile projects where she designed, developed and supported various software systems.
