Beyond Technology: A Broader Lens on Digital Health
As part of his Industry Practice Master of Digital Economy (IPMDE) requirements, Leslie chose the IGD in Digital Health because it had the most relevance to and extended his past work experience.
While he had the luxury of time to return to school, the decision was never simply about collecting another certificate. Instead, he wanted to challenge his own thinking and gain fresh perspectives in an area that is evolving rapidly.
Learning Through Different Perspectives
For him, one of the most valuable aspects of the programme was the diversity of its lecturers and participants. Participants from different parts of the Singapore health ecosystem, as well as those from outside the industry, brought different viewpoints and experiences into the classroom. The sharing of real-life industry experiences, diverse perspectives and spirited debates made the learning experience richer than any textbook could offer.
He shared,

Applying a Broader Lens to Digital Health
Now spending his time on independent consulting, industry teaching and writing, the programme has given him a broader lens through which to look at digital health.
It has helped him bring greater depth and balance to his work, ask better questions, and consider not just technology, but also the wider ecosystem behind it. In many ways, the experience has made him a more well-rounded practitioner in his area of expertise and a lifelong learner.
A Perspective to Take Forward
For professionals considering the programme, Leslie encourages them to come with an open mind. He believes Digital Health extends beyond technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI), requiring an understanding of the wider healthcare ecosystem, including its stakeholders, challenges and opportunities, as well as data, policy, governance and commercial considerations.
He also believes that participants do not need to come from a healthcare background. The diversity of industries and disciplines is what makes the class discussions valuable, with opportunities to challenge assumptions, learn from others and contribute their own experiences.
His advice to prospective participants is simple:
