In an interview with Zaobao, Professor Walter Woon, Dean of RHT LTI and Lee Kong Chian Visiting Professor at the SMU Yong Pung How School of Law, commented that lowering the requirements for foreign students to allow them to practice would be unfair to the graduates of the three local law schools, as they all compete in the same job market. He added that letting those who fail to meet the standards to practice would be irresponsible and pose a risk to both clients and law firms.
To help candidates better prepare for the part A bar examinations, SMU Academy, SMU Law Academy and RHT Legal Training Institute have signed a memorandum of understanding to launch a joint course. It is the first-ever collaboration between an autonomous university and private education institute to offer the Part A Examination preparatory course.
