Overview

A comprehensive course on 3-Dimensional (3D) printing, designed for participants aiming to optimise Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) 3D printing through the introduction of fundamental calibration test and techniques.

Ideal for professionals in additive manufacturing, architecture, product design, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, and creative technology, this course combines practical exercises with essential theory. Participants will engage in hands-on calibration activities including temperature, speed, and flow rate tests, will exploring various 3D printing infills and their applications.

By the end of the course, participants will acquire the expertise to improve print quality and adapt the 3D printing process to meet diverse project requirements.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the 2-day course, participants will be able to:

  • Run fundamental calibration test to better understand the printer and material
  • Identify limitations of both printer and commonly available materials
  • Locate and adjust setting according to project and printing requirements
  • Develop confidence in printer setting adjustment, material use and application on common use cases

Assessment

As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of every module. The mode of assessment varies depending on the modules and it will be either an online quiz or group presentation.

Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment in order to receive a digital Certificate of Completion issued by SMU Academy.

  • Organisation must be registered or incorporated in Singapore
  • Employment size of not more than 200 or with annual sales turnover of not more than $100 million
  • Trainees must be hired in accordance with the Employment Act and fully sponsored by their employers for the course
  • Trainees must be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
  • Trainees must not be a full-time national serviceman

Wan Kyn is a Visual Artist and Engineer who draws inspiration from the intangible elements of his surroundings, such as negative space, light, and human connection. Wan Kyn was a member of the pioneer class of the School of the Arts, Singapore (SOTA), and has exhibited in shows at the Singapore Art Museum: 8Q (2009) and iLight Singapore 2012. He later pursued studies in Mechanical Engineering with the goal of melding the arts and STEM fields graduating with both a B.Sc (2019) and M.Sc (2021) in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University. He was the only student commissioned to produce two immersive installations for Purdue University’s Boiler Gold Rush 2022 orientation programme. Wan Kyn is also a winner of the 2023 Julius Baer Next Generation Art Prize and first Singaporean resident of VISIONS: Singapore-France Emerging Artist in Residency Programme (2024). He has exhibited at INSTINC Gallery (2022), SAW 2023 Urban Screens, iLight Singapore 2023 and 2012, Bangkok Thonburi University (2024) and Art Outreach, Singapore (2024).
