PREREQUISITES
- Networking concepts: A solid understanding of fundamental networking concepts like IP addressing, protocols such as Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and network topologies is essential. This knowledge allows participants to grasp how network security controls function and where they are best implemented
- Familiarity with security principles: Basic knowledge of security principles like authentication, authorisation, and encryption will provide a foundation for understanding the course material
- Prior IT security experience: While not mandatory, prior experience in IT security or a related field can enhance a participant's understanding of the course material
- Experience with a specific security product (e.g., Check Point): While the course offers an introduction to Check Point technologies, prior experience with similar security products can be advantageous
Overview
Participants will learn how to identify vulnerabilities, manage cyber risks, and implement security controls like firewalls and network segmentation. They will also explore tools like SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) and SOC (Security Operation Center) used to monitor threats and manage security incidents. Participants will gain a foundational understanding of Check Point security solutions for network traffic monitoring and threat detection.
By the end of the course, participants will have a comprehensive understanding of cyber threats and breach prevention strategies.
Note: This module is not available on a standalone basis.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the 21-day module, participants will be able to:
- Understand the key principles of vulnerability management, risk management, and security controls
- Apply network segmentation strategies to minimise the impact of potential breaches
- Implement network monitoring techniques and identify malicious activity using tools and methods for malware detection
- Leverage SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) and SOC (Security Operation Center) best practices for centralised security data analysis and incident response
- Gain proficiency in Check Point security technologies for network traffic monitoring and threat detection
Assessment
As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of every module. The mode of assessment varies depending on the modules and it will be either an online quiz or group presentation.
Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment for each of the 10 modules in order to be eligible for programme funding and to be awarded the digital (SCTP) Advanced Certificate in Cyber Security (Specialist) (Synchronous E-Learning) issued by Singapore Management University.

4 SkillsFuture Level-Up Programme for Mid-Career Individuals (NEW)
A SkillsFuture Credit (Mid-Career) top-up of $4,000 will be provided to Singaporeans aged 40 years and above to further offset out-of-pocket course fees for this programme.

Self Sponsored
SkillsFuture Credit
Singapore Citizens aged 25 and above may use their SkillsFuture Credits to pay for the course fees. The credits may be used on top of existing course fee funding.
This is only applicable to self-sponsored participants. Application to utilise SkillsFuture Credits can be submitted when making payment for the course via the SMU Academy TMS Portal, and can only be made within 60 days of course start date.
