Overview
This introductory course on 3D printing covers essential 3D printer operations and highlights its diverse industrial applications. From design to print, course participants will learn about the fundamentals of 3D modeling, slicing, and printing using common open-source software. This course also discusses on the advantages and disadvantages of 3D printing along with practical troubleshooting tips for common challenges. Upon completion of the course, participants would be equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to confidently operate a 3D printer and produce high-quality prints.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the 2-day module, participants will be able to:
- Operate a fused deposition modelling (FDM) 3-Dimensional (3D) printer of different capabilities including setup, printing and maintenance
- Identify pros and cons of 3D printing and their industry applications
- Troubleshoot basic printer and printer issues and quick fixes
- Develop confidence in model feasibility and preparation, material selection and printing through hands-on exercise
Assessment
As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of every module. The mode of assessment varies depending on the modules and it will be either an online quiz or group presentation.
Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment in order to receive a digital Certificate of Completion issued by SMU Academy.

Singapore Citizens aged 25 and above may use their SkillsFuture Credits to pay for the course fees. The credits may be used on top of existing course fee funding.

Enhanced Training Support for SMEs (ETSS)
- Organisation must be registered or incorporated in Singapore
- Employment size of not more than 200 or with annual sales turnover of not more than $100 million
- Trainees must be hired in accordance with the Employment Act and fully sponsored by their employers for the course
- Trainees must be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
- Trainees must not be a full-time national serviceman
- Trainees are eligible for ETSS funding only if their company's SME status is approved prior to the course commencement date. To verify your SME's status, please click here.
