Overview

Navigate the Global Business Landscape

This introductory module provides an overview of the key principles and strategies involved in international business expansion. Participants will explore the compelling motivations behind global expansion and gain insights into high-level strategies for entering new markets. The course delves into the opportunities and challenges inherent in international business, preparing learners for careers in this dynamic field.

By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to expand their business beyond Singapore's borders.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the 2-day course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the “push” and “pull” factors for a business to go global
  • Understand the fundamentals, legal and financial aspects of an international business
  • Learn invaluable perspectives and lessons learnt from the successes and/ or failures of an international business

Assessment

As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of every module. The mode of assessment varies depending on the modules and it will be either an online quiz or group presentation.

Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment for each of the 6 modules in order to be eligible for programme funding and to be awarded the digital (SCTP) Advanced Certificate in International Business issued by Singapore Management University.

1 Up to 70% course fee funding
2 Up to 90% course fee funding under SkillsFuture Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy ("MCES")
3 Up to 95% course fee funding under Additional Funding Support ("AFS") where participants must be:

  • Singapore Citizens; and
  • Long-term unemployed individuals (6 months or more); or
  • Individuals in need of financial assistance [ComCare Short-to-Medium Term Assistance (SMTA) recipients or Workfare Income Supplement (WIS) recipients]; or
  • Persons with disabilities

4 SkillsFuture Level-Up Programme for Mid-Career Individuals (NEW)
A SkillsFuture Credit (Mid-Career) top-up of $4,000 will be provided to Singaporeans aged 40 years and above to further offset out-of-pocket course fees for this programme.

Self Sponsored

SkillsFuture Credit

Singapore Citizens aged 25 and above may use their SkillsFuture Credits to pay for the course fees. The credits may be used on top of existing course fee funding.

This is only applicable to self-sponsored participants. Application to utilise SkillsFuture Credits can be submitted when making payment for the course via the SMU Academy TMS Portal, and can only be made within 60 days of course start date.

Millennium Enterprise

Jeffrey, Co-founder and CEO of Millennium Enterprise, brings 20 years of industry experience, including over 12 years in management roles at Accenture, IBM, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), and UOB, where he led the Enterprise Data Governance Policy unit.

A former banker, he founded Millennium Enterprise in 2016, rapidly scaling it into a multi-million dollar e-commerce and product development company, earning recognition as one of Singapore’s Fastest Growing Companies and a spot in the Financial Times Asia-Pacific High-Growth list, with a CAGR of over 70%. Millennium Enterprise also won Amazon’s Go Global Seller of the Year award and was later acquired in a multi-million-dollar deal.

Jeffrey advises C-level executives and business owners on e-commerce expansion and M&A, mentors at NUS and is an angel investor. He holds an MBA from Singapore Management University and completed the Advanced Management Programme at INSEAD.
