PREREQUISITES
- Basic computer literacy: Participants should be comfortable with using a computer, navigating a Graphical User Interface (GUI), and understanding basic computer concepts
- Interest in technology: The programme delves into technical aspects of operating systems and security. A genuine interest in technology will make learning more engaging
- Some familiarity with IT terminology: Understanding common IT terms related to hardware, software, and networks would be beneficial
- Prior programming experience: Since the programme covers Bash scripting, basic programming experience in another language might be helpful, but not necessarily mandatory
Overview
Participants will build their own virtual machine, explore the file system, write powerful scripts, and manage essential services like web servers and databases – all within the powerful Linux environment.
Note: This module is not available on a standalone basis.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the 14-day module, participants will be able to:
- Gain foundational skills to navigate and operate within the Linux environment
- Work with the file system
- Leverage the power of the command line through scripting
- Confidently install and manage essential services
Assessment
As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of every module. The mode of assessment varies depending on the modules and it will be either an online quiz or group presentation.
Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment for each of the 10 modules in order to be eligible for programme funding and to be awarded the digital (SCTP) Advanced Certificate in Cyber Security (Specialist) (Synchronous E-Learning) issued by Singapore Management University.

1 Up to 70% course fee funding

4 SkillsFuture Level-Up Programme for Mid-Career Individuals (NEW)
A SkillsFuture Credit (Mid-Career) top-up of $4,000 will be provided to Singaporeans aged 40 years and above to further offset out-of-pocket course fees for this programme.

Self Sponsored
SkillsFuture Credit
Singapore Citizens aged 25 and above may use their SkillsFuture Credits to pay for the course fees. The credits may be used on top of existing course fee funding.
This is only applicable to self-sponsored participants. Application to utilise SkillsFuture Credits can be submitted when making payment for the course via the SMU Academy TMS Portal, and can only be made within 60 days of course start date.
