Who Should Attend
- Candidates attempting Part A of the Singapore Bar Examination
- Any other person with an interest in the fundamentals of the Singapore legal system
PREREQUISITES
- Participants who have obtained or are currently studying for a law degree from a Commonwealth jurisdiction;
- Participants who have obtained or are studying for a paralegal certification in a Commonwealth jurisdiction.
Overview
The topics to be covered in this course include administrative law, constitutional law, commercial law (in relation to laws on contract, tort and equity). This course will explore how Singapore’s legal system is shaped and will also discuss how Singapore law has departed from its English origins in both application and development. Broken into three parts, the module will expose participants to the origins of Singapore’s legal system, discuss the autochthonous aspects of Singapore law as well as the future of the Singapore legal landscape.

Learning Objectives
At the end of the 8-week course, participants will be able to:
Describe the legal history of Singapore
- Define the sources of law in Singapore
- Explain the legal institutions of Singapore
- Explain the role of the legal profession in Singapore
- Describe the development of an autochthonous legal system in Singapore
- Give an overview of Commercial law in Singapore
- Give an overview of Constitutional law in Singapore
- Give an overview of Administrative law in Singapore
- Explain and apply the principles of statutory interpretation in Singapore
- Describe the future of the legal system in Singapore
Assessment
As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of the course. The mode of assessment will be multiple-choice questions covering issues taught during the course.
Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment in order to receive a digital Certificate of Participation issued by Singapore Management University.

- Organisation must be registered or incorporated in Singapore
- Employment size of not more than 200 or with annual sales turnover of not more than $100 million
