PREREQUISITES
- Participants who have obtained or are currently studying for a law degree from a Commonwealth jurisdiction;
- Participants who have obtained or are studying for a paralegal certification in a Commonwealth jurisdiction.
Overview
Delivered online, this eight-week course will cover the five subjects set by the Singapore Institute of Legal Education (SILE): Company Law, Criminal Law, Singapore Legal System, Land Law and Evidence Law. Jointly offered by SMU Academy, SMU Law Academy and RHT Legal Training Institute (RHT LTI), the course will incorporate both academic and practical expertise, allowing participants to establish a well-rounded and solid foundation in preparation for the Part A Bar Examination. Taught by experienced faculty from SMU Yong Pung How School of Law and legal practitioners from RHT LTI, the course will provide specialised training to set the next generation of lawyers up for success in the Part A Bar Examination.
There will be eight three-hour sessions for each of the five subjects. Classes will be held online from 7:00pm Singapore time. This will allow participants to attend after work or even while abroad.
Important: Participants intending to sit for the Part A Bar Examination must register themselves with SILE. SMU and RHT LTI cannot do this for you. There will be no refunds if for any reason whatsoever you are unable to register or sit for the examination.

Assessment
As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of every subject. The mode of assessment will be multiple-choice questions covering issues taught during the course.
Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment for each of the 5 subjects.

SkillsFuture Credit
Singapore Citizens aged 25 and above may use their SkillsFuture Credits to pay for the course fees. The credits may be used on top of existing course fee funding.
This is only applicable to self-sponsored participants. Application to utilise SkillsFuture Credits can be submitted when making payment for the course via the SMU Academy TMS Portal, and can only be made within 60 days of course start date.

Company Sponsored
Enhanced Training Support for SMEs (ETSS)
- Organisation must be registered or incorporated in Singapore
- Employment size of not more than 200 or with annual sales turnover of not more than $100 million
- Trainees must be hired in accordance with the Employment Act and fully sponsored by their employers for the course
- Trainees must be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
- Trainees must not be a full-time national serviceman
