Who Should Attend

Business Executives, HR professionals and Individuals who are interested to create a sustainable and healthy workplace.

Overview

The objective of this course is to present neuroscience-based resilience knowledge and skills to help participants improve their personal mental health and emotional well-being. The need for economic transformation, hybrid workplace arrangements, environmental extremes, pandemic safety disruptions have placed a premium on mental well-being of the global citizen.

This immersive and experiential programme is designed to help build on participants’ foundational knowledge and skills to support personal self-care and resilience. By adopting scientific evidence-based practices, participants will learn to enhance their mental well-being and empower themselves to thrive in Life and Work. 

 

Learning Objectives

Personal Wellbeing and Resilience in the Workplace Module 1: The Foundations

At the end of the 2-day module, participants will be able to

  • Understand and recognise the effects of distress and burnout
  • Identify cognitive traps and unhelpful beliefs
  • Integrate resilience practices into their self-care routine
  • Manage life challenges with greater mental flexibility
  • Improve personal efficacy and job satisfaction at work 

Personal Wellbeing and Resilience in the Workplace Module 2: Psychological First Aid Training for Peer Support

At the end of the 2-day module, participants will be able to:

  • Recognise and approach persons in distress with confidence
  • Apply Psychological First Aid (PFA) concepts and communication skills to offer practical help
  • Set mindful boundaries and access support early
  • Strengthen employee relations and engagement

Assessment

There will be presentation or written assessments for each module. 

Participants have to meet a minimum attendance rate of 75% and have to complete all assessment(s) required by the course. Only upon meeting the minimum attendance and passing the assessment will participants be issued a Certificate of Completion.

Participants who fail the assessment will be given a chance for re-assessment at a fee of SGD100.00 (excluding prevailing GST). Each participant is allowed 1 re-assessment. The re-assessment has to be taken within 7 calendar days from the end of the course date. It will be held on a weekday specified by SMU Academy and conducted during office hours. Please note that re-assessment fees are not supported by SSG Funding.

Participants who meet the minimum attendance rate but do not achieve a pass for the assessment will be issued a Certificate of Participation.

Participants are required to bring their laptop to access the course materials, class exercises and individual assessment(s).

Enhanced Training Support for SMEs (ETSS)

  • Organisation must be registered or incorporated in Singapore
  • Employment size of not more than 200 or with annual sales turnover of not more than $100 million
  • Trainees must be hired in accordance with the Employment Act and fully sponsored by their employers for the course
  • Trainees must be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
  • Trainees must not be a full-time national serviceman
  • Trainees are eligible for ETSS funding only if their company's SME status is approved prior to the course commencement date. To verify your SME's status, please click here.

Dr Chiang Siau holds an MBBS from the National University of Singapore and has pursued further studies in anaesthesiology and counselling. He served as a Senior Consultant Anaesthetist at the National University Hospital and Associate Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS. Dr. Siau's expertise in experiential learning and patient safety training has earned him recognition and grants. His research in pain neuroscience earned him prestigious scholarships and fellowships. Dr. Siau initiated a Care-for-Carer program to support staff wellness, drawing from his counseling background. He emphasises cognitive-behavioral connections for self-care and volunteers for mental health support. Guided by personal values, he navigates life's challenges mindfully, aiming for growth and joy.

Singapore Youth Mental Wellbeing
Dr Tan E-Ching, MBBS (Singapore), GDFP, GDMH (Mental Health), is the Founder and Director of Hallmark Health, specialising in mental wellness through counselling and training in Emotional Intelligence, Mindfulness, Resilience, and Empathy. With 20 years as a Senior Family Physician, she witnessed a surge in mental health issues, particularly among youths, prompting her to establish Hallmark Health. Dr Tan graduated from the National University of Singapore Medical Faculty in 1994 and holds certifications in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and Mindful Self-Compassion. She leads the Singapore Youth Mental Wellbeing initiative, conducts workshops in various settings, and volunteers for organisations supporting disadvantaged youth.
