Overview
This module will provide you with a background on the psychology of stress, resilience and thriving in this fast-paced world. How are you coping with stress, worry and anxiety – what is your style, do you need to develop other coping techniques? What is your resilience profile? How can you calm yourself amidst the hustle and bustle of this busy world? How would you keep positive? The module aims to provide you with effective strategies to become more resilient and to thrive in a fast paced environment.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the 2-day module, participants will be able to:
- Describe the key aspects of stress in today’s world
- Review the main ways of coping with stress
- Analyse the differences between appraisal, problem-focused, and emotion-focused coping
- Identify the sources of stress at work
- Illustrate some techniques of using time effectively
- Practice calming and relaxation techniques
- Apply techniques in positive psychology to everyday living (work and personal)
Topic/Structure
Self-mastery is the foundation for all personal, work and life-related endeavours. To succeed in these domains, we need a rich understanding of who we are at a personal level, and of who we might become when we have a deeper understanding of ourselves, others and the environment we operate in. A good sense of what motivates us, drives us, and limits us, is the springboard for success and managing obstacles in life, relationships and at work.
This programme draws learning, insights and applications from psychological and behavioural sciences to provide learners with a structured way of understanding about themselves, others and the environment they operate in, to help them become more effective and resilient in different domains of their lives.
Assessment
There will be presentation or written assessments for each module.
Participants have to meet a minimum attendance rate of 75% and have to complete all assessment(s) required by the course. Only upon meeting the minimum attendance and passing the assessment will participants be issued a Certificate of Completion.
Participants who fail the assessment will be given a chance for re-assessment at a fee of SGD100.00 (excluding prevailing GST). Each participant is allowed 1 re-assessment. The re-assessment has to be taken within 7 calendar days from the end of the course date. It will be held on a weekday specified by SMU Academy and conducted during office hours. Please note that re-assessment fees are not supported by SSG Funding.
Participants who meet the minimum attendance rate but do not achieve a pass for the assessment will be issued a Certificate of Participation.
Participants are required to bring their laptop to access the course materials, class exercises and individual assessment(s).

Enhanced Training Support for SMEs (ETSS)
- Organisation must be registered or incorporated in Singapore
- Employment size of not more than 200 or with annual sales turnover of not more than $100 million
- Trainees must be hired in accordance with the Employment Act and fully sponsored by their employers for the course
- Trainees must be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
- Trainees must not be a full-time national serviceman
