Overview

The Foreign Exchange (FX) market is the single largest financial market in the world with a global turnover of more than $6 trillion per day. With globalised trades in goods and services as well as overseas investments abound, demand for foreign exchange transactions, management & hedging of FX exposures as well as trading & risk management of FX in various asset classes have become an integral part of many businesses and investments. 

The Foreign Exchange (FX) market, in practice, essentially involves the trading of FX spot and its derivatives, namely FX swap, Non-deliverable Forward (NDF) and FX option.  This 2-day course seeks to provide a comprehensive foundation knowledge on the markets, structures, characteristics, functional applications, and trading management of these products.

  • Market Features, Conventions and Practices (Quotes, Value Dates, Terminologies, Lingoes)
  • FX Spot, Swap, NDF & Option Product Knowledge (Structure, Characteristics, Price Discovery, Position & Risk Management)
  • Transacting and Dealing in the FX Market (Channels, Platforms, Executions, Funding Requirement, Settlements, Margin)
  • Core Calculation Methodologies Essential to Each Product
  • Applications of FX products to Exposure Hedging and Trading
  • Overview of Market Analysis
  • Practical session to gain hands-on experience and knowledge by applying recommended financial market website platforms to track foreign exchange market development

Assessment

As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of the course. The mode of assessment, which is up to the trainer’s discretion, may be an online quiz, a presentation or based on classroom exercises.

Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment in order to receive a digital Certificate of Completion issued by Singapore Management University.

Clement boasts 20+ years in FX, interest rates, and derivatives trading across G10 and emerging market currencies in Singapore and Hong Kong. Beginning at Citibank, he progressed to Senior Vice President at Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, then excelled as Senior Portfolio Manager at hedge funds ESW Manage and Max Giant Capital. Co-founding a macro trading & private equity fund in 2018, he operates as an RFMC in Singapore. A sought-after speaker at business schools and corporate programs in Hong Kong and China, Ho is a Chartered Financial Analyst with an MBA from NUS and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from NIE/NTU.
