BCG BrightHouse
Part of Boston Consulting Group’s ecosystem, BCG BrightHouse is a global creative-and-strategy consultancy, built on the premise of ‘purpose consulting’ to help organisations uncover their core purpose, embed it in brand, culture, and strategy and then activate it for performance.
Drawing on a BCG Global Survey of 1,000 CXOs across more than 20 sectors, it is reported that only 26% of organisations have achieved real value from AI. AI transformation often fails less because of technology, and more because of leadership, culture and trust, which are observed in
- Stalled momentum: organisations struggle with low adoption, stalled pilots and cultural resistance.
- Amplification effects: leaders underestimate the human and cultural amplification effects of AI.
- Timeline Compress: transformation timelines compress faster than people can adapt.
The project developed the HUMAN framework as a leadership development response to the AI readiness gap.
- A 5-pillar HUMAN framework that reframes digital transformation discussions from tech-centric to human-centric for sustainable AI transformation.
- H: How we learn, decide and react in reflective sense-making and emotional regulation under ambiguity;
- U: Uncover cultural conditions into which AI is introduced;
- M: Meaning and purpose that preserve human agency as cognitive work is increasingly augmented;
- A: Adaptive leadership practice that converts organisational readiness into sustained motion;
- N: Nurture psychological safety and trust that enable honest engagement with AI and its consequences.
- Illustrated practical application and commercial evidence through Singapore’s financial sector with DBS Bank as the primary organisational exemplar.
- Contributed 2 deployable diagnostic tools that support Pillar H and Pillar U.
- Supporting Pillar H, the REACH Diagnostic Suite evaluates AI-ready leadership through 3 instruments, namely, self-assessment, 360 observer assessment, and governance readiness assessment, diving deep into how a leader orchestrates change, ethics, and human-AI collaboration.
Supporting Pillar U, the Cultural AI Readiness Evaluation (CARE) addresses the organisational culture into which AI is introduced, providing a dual-lens instrument covering both leadership intent and employee experience.
- A shared language of human-centric digital and AI transformation for C-suite executives who steer AI transformation to foster transparency, acceptance and trust.
- A clear and preventive 5-pillar HUMAN framework that leads to better decision-making, optimises performance and mitigates the risks of costly failed AI transformation pilots.
- A set of leadership-level ready-to-deploy diagnostic tools that evaluate both AI-ready leadership and culture readiness to help guide AI transformation decisions responsibly.
- Builds a foundation of aligning AI adoption with organisational purpose, values and ESG goals for long-term value creation.
The SMU students thought brilliantly about the power of a human-centric AI transformation and did deep research to reach their HUMAN framework. As professionals, they already had a great understanding of where non-AI tech transformations had experienced issues, and found it refreshing to approach the problem not from the tech implementation side, but from first understanding the challenges of human adoption. It inspired our internal team working on our offering in this space, and we were lucky that one of our professors was also on the team advising SMU’s AI policy. The students made an immediate impact by influencing both organisations with their thought leadership.
