Other topics may mirror other modules by addressing similar topics, but legal operations’ priorities provide different perspectives and goals. This module aims to equip you with an understanding of legal operations, as well as how to implement them. The overall objective of this module is to teach participants how to organise a law practice to maximise the efficiency of its business practices.

Communication is also important within the organisation. Effective communication can help to foster a good working relationship between you and your staff, which can in turn improve morale and efficiency. The overall objective of this module is to help participants understand how lawyers can communicate effectively with non-lawyers and how to create a marketing strategy that drives business to the firm.

The overall objective of this module is to help participants understand what knowledge management is, what outcomes it can drive for law firms and legal teams and the practical aspects around a knowledge management implementation. This module will guide participants through the basic principles that must be followed around implementing knowledge management systems. It explores the importance of creating and capturing knowledge, as well as discovering and repurposing prior work product.

This module focuses on mediation, which is a key alternate dispute resolution (ADR) process in Singapore. Participants will learn basic mediation advocacy skills, identify and convey effectively key interests of clients, and employ their existing non-legal skills effectively in a mediation. If trained properly in ADR, Allied Legal Professionals (ALP) can have certain strengths in mediation advocacy and aid lawyers in delivering effective representation of their clients.

This module will help participants determine their client's dominant mode of processing information. Participants will also learn to strategically create rapport through matching and mirroring the person they are talking to - valuable skills that will give them a distinct advantage throughout their career.

In this module, participants will be introduced to management principles and how they can be applied to the arts. The key concepts of arts management will be discussed. Participants will also examine how organisational culture can affect the capacity to change and manage creatively. Through case studies and examining best practices, participants will learn how to sustain a competitive advantage.
 

Changes in technology and the prolific use of social media are having an impact on how audiences see arts productions. The art forms themselves have also evolved. Inter-disciplinary arts are the new normal. Gone are the days when an artist focuses solely on one art form. Arts organisations are realising that managing the arts is not simply a task which can be done by anyone with knowledge and skills in business or management. Instead, it is an area that requires specialised knowledge and skills. 

Jointly offered by SMU and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), this certificate programme provides participants with the knowledge and confidence required to identify design principles for visual strategies and to make informed decisions when collaborating with creative expertise and procuring creative assets. Participants will gain meaningful insights into the process of translating customers’ needs to a practical design language and will be able to provide timely responses to emerging opportunities in the digital age.

Module 1 provides participants with an understanding of how semiotics is used in marketing to decipher and influence consumers’ attitudes and behaviours. Participants will also learn how to draw upon the latest creative assets to skilfully compete in an emotional economy.
 

Participants will investigate the unique requirements of marketing the arts which is centred around the marketing of an experience. A key component of this module is understanding the critical role that audience development plays in the sustainability of an arts organisation. The concept of sponsorship will also be touched on as a function of marketing. In addition, participants will explore how to leverage on new technologies to market the arts. A key component will be the development of outreach and audience development activities.
