Who Should Attend

Managers, executives, officers, auditors, end-users, contract owners and specialists in purchasing, procurement and supply chain management roles who are required to participate in professional negotiation as part of their job responsibilities.


PREREQUISITES

Participants should preferably be

  • conversant in English, both spoken and written; and
  • proficient in MS Office

Overview

In business, the ability to navigate negotiations with your vendors and suppliers is a critical skill.

From understanding the dynamics of negotiation to applying different tactics to delivering an AWESOME negotiation, the key to successful negotiation is that the more prepared you are, the more confident and effective you’ll be. This module provides participants with the practical approach, tools, knowledge and confidence they need to direct negotiations to their advantage. Participants will be introduced to a logical, step-by-step process that will ensure they have the best plan in place to achieve the desired objective with their negotiation.

  • Apply the tactics in negotiation skills to achieve AWESOME results
  • Understand themselves and their role in a negotiation team
  • Experience a real negotiation with an expert

Assessment

As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of the course. The mode of assessment, which is up to the trainer’s discretion, may be an online quiz, a presentation or based on classroom exercises.

Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment in order to receive a digital Certificate of Completion issued by Singapore Management University.

With extensive international experience across Germany, Portugal, Vietnam, China, Hong Kong, and Thailand, he brings a diverse cultural perspective to his work. Since 2012, Rick has trained procurement professionals across various sectors, specialising in negotiation, contract management, essential procurement skills, and specification writing. He serves as an adjunct trainer at numerous higher learning institutions in Singapore and holds recognition as an Associate Adult Educator with the Institute of Adult Learning (IAL), Singapore.

Xun (pronounced “shin”) is a procurement professional with more than 15 years’ experience, covering various aspects of procurement – starting from vendor data management and contracting, to supplier relationship management and negotiation, and most recently, starting to deep dive into sustainable procurement and procurement process automation. 

Having worked in different industries – shipping, logistics, electronics, and professional services – Xun has been adept at applying the fundamentals of procurement to bring practice standards to the next level, growing and developing each organization he has been part of. His past achievements include setting up two procurement teams from scratch, directing regional efforts to obtain cost reductions of USD 5m within a year, and building out a globally adopted, ISO-certified standardized sourcing process with customizable tools. 

Xun is eager to learn and share knowledge – he has conducted procurement training in various South-East Asian countries and received an award for his thesis on the benefits of supplier relationships during the pursuit of his MBA with Nottingham University. He is currently working as Director of Procurement Practice in a relocation management company.
