PREREQUISITES
Participants should preferably have taken Module 5 of the Advanced Certificate in RegTech programme.
Overview
In financial services, the emergence of open banking models, artificial intelligence for fraud prevention, AML surveillance on cryptocurrency transactions, blockchain-KYC integration, immersive experiences, digital twins, event thinking, and continuous adaptive security will each create a foundation for the next generation of digital business models and ecosystems. RegTech startups have accelerated the pace of technological change in the financial services sector. Predictably, many industries will take inspiration from financial services firms, rolling out specialist technology solutions to support the transition to a new era of oversight. In 2018, we saw RegTech playing a greater role that stretches well beyond financial services into virtually every industry. Case in point - the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This represents a material overhaul of data protection rules and will come into force in the first half of 2018. Organisations in virtually every industry will need to make dramatic changes to the way they treat compliance and take heed of the huge financial penalties at stake should they fail to comply.
The overall objective of this module is for participants to understand that RegTech is not limited to the financial services industry and to appreciate the sheer size of the entire RegTech market opportunity across both, financial services and non-financial industries.
Learning Objectives
- Be familiar with core non-financial use cases that can be found in the software industry, real estate, energy/ utilities, pharma, healthcare equipment, telecommunication, as well as in the public sector
- Be able to articulate how consumer expectations and regulatory realities differ across various non-financial industries
- Be able to appreciate that relevant regulatory expertise is a key element not only in the financial industry but also in all other heavily regulated industries
- Have a solid understanding of the (broader) range of technologies that are driving RegTech offerings for non-financial industries compared to those that only catered to the financial services industry
- Understand the growth opportunities and challenges for RegTech solutions beyond the financial services industry
