2 days
Weekdays (9am - 5pm)
Who Should Attend
Financial services professionals as well as technologists who wish to have a solid understanding of the current FinTech landscape, relevant regulations, RegTech use cases, and the risks and opportunities that come with the digital revolution.
PREREQUISITES
Participants should preferably have taken Module 3 and Module 4 of the Advanced Certificate in RegTech programme.
Overview
So far, regulation in financial services is almost exclusively targeting the intermediaries that act as providers of such services. However, with the advent of decentralised business models (e.g. blockchain-based models) and knowledge-based systems that cut out the middle-man, the approach for whom we regulate and which measures we use to create trustworthy interactions will have to be redesigned as well.
In a fully decentralised marketplace, there are only buyers and sellers of services as well as the software connecting the two. Regulation based on managing the behaviour of the intermediary will simply be void once decentralised business models take hold within the community. We, therefore, need to reframe the regulatory approach and start designing rules that take user behaviour and intentions into account and measure the users’ ability to understand the implications of their actions in the markets.
This module aims to build in participants the confidence to critically assess the future of the financial services sector, address specific RegTech challenges effectively and efficiently, and champion collaboration to build successful financial solutions.
Learning Objectives
- Have a solid understanding of the technologies that will shape the future of the financial services sector
- Have the ability to critically assess the future of the financial services sector (e.g., by exploring concrete real-world problems and contrasting how more traditional Financial Services providers and emerging FinTech players find solutions)
- Have an appreciation for the fact that FinTech players can help incumbents, not just disrupt them
- Learn how to create better financial solutions and how to achieve successful collaboration between traditional financial services providers and emerging FinTech players
Assessment
As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of the course. The mode of assessment, which is up to the trainer’s discretion, may be an online quiz, a presentation or based on classroom exercises.
