Overview
The financial crash of 2008 has led to increased regulation of financial services and the patchwork of resulting national and international laws has placed an enhanced compliance burden on companies. RegTech solutions are helping to ease the pain by assisting companies to keep abreast of new requirements and integrate the capacity to comply with them into their existing systems. Hence the emergence of RegTech.
Over the past few years, hundreds of start-ups have begun to apply digital technology – including APIs, artificial intelligence and robotic process automation – to the now numerous and burdensome tasks required to comply with regulations. RegTech promises not only to cut the cost of compliance processes but also to improve effectiveness to make them quicker and more reliable, reducing hassle for customers, and lessening the risk of costly compliance failures. But the potential of RegTech extends beyond making compliance more efficient. The data and analytic techniques that satisfy regulators’ demands can also deliver commercially valuable insights about customers and markets. Used properly, RegTech can become a source of competitive advantage.
Comprising 6 modules, this certificate programme aims to prepare participants for the changing landscape of regulation. It is specifically designed for financial services professionals as well as technologists who wish to have a solid understanding of the current FinTech landscape, relevant regulations, RegTech use cases, and the risks and opportunities that come with the digital revolution.
Topic/Structure
To achieve the Advanced Certificate in RegTech, participants will need to complete the following modules offered by SMU Academy:
Module 1: Regulatory Monitoring, Reporting and Compliance in the Finance Industry
Module 2: RegTech Use Cases from Different Perspectives: Finance Institutions vs Regulators vs FinTechs vs Consumers
Module 3: RegTech Innovation Focus I – Digitalisation, Data Analytics, Machine Learning and AI
Module 4: RegTech Innovation Focus II – Distributed Ledger Technology, Data Privacy and Secure Data Sharing
Module 5: RegTech Trends and Opportunities – From RegTech to TechReg
Module 6: RegTech Applicability Outside the Financial Services Industry
Assessment
As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of every module. The mode of assessment, which is up to the trainer’s discretion, may be an online quiz, a presentation or based on classroom exercises.
Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment for each of the 6 modules within 3 years in order to be awarded the digital Advanced Certificate in RegTech issued by Singapore Management University.
