Overview
Good corporate governance is a key factor underpinning the integrity and efficiency of a company. Sound corporate governance is crucial in enabling companies to operate more efficiently, improve access to capital, mitigate risk and safeguard stakeholders. Firms with sound governance principles in place usually outperform other companies, attract better investments, and enjoy stellar reputations.
In addition, the growing scale, reach and impact of businesses have given rise to a debate about the roles and responsibilities of businesses with regard to human rights. This has led to the placement of business and human rights on the UN agenda with the development of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGP) as the first global standard for preventing and addressing the risk of adverse impacts on human rights linked to business activity.
The course focuses on understanding transparency, governance and business integrity for fraud and corruption prevention as well as the importance of human rights and labour for organisations.
UN Global Compact Network Singapore (GCNS) is the Singapore chapter of the United Nations Global Compact.
As the national lead agency promoting corporate sustainability, GCNS provides an ecosystem for companies to align strategies and operations with universal principles on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, and take actions to achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through various platforms for multi-stakeholder engagement and collective action, GCNS advances the stewardship of sustainable business practices and Singapore’s national agenda of becoming a regional sustainable business hub. In addition, GCNS nurtures the next generation of responsible business leaders through its youth initiatives. GCNS is a stakeholder of the Global Reporting Initiative and supports the Singapore chapter of the World Bank Group's Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition (CPLC).
