This programme is recommended for social service sector professionals; public sector professionals who are involved in either policy formulation or schemes relating to social services; professionals from funding agencies/voluntary welfare organisations who are interested to learn how to better match services to demand.

Overview
The social service sector aims to ensure vulnerable individuals are identified and cared for. Achieving these goals require multiple stakeholders (government bodies, social service agencies, enablers and volunteer groups etc) to be responsive to a constantly changing social service environment. The modules in the Advanced Certificate in Social Service Analytics aim to develop participants' competencies to obtain deep insights through data analytics to support the social service ecosystem.
Learning Objectives
Module 1: Foundation Session 1.0
- Understand the need for social service analytics
- Acquire foundational knowledge to undertake social service analytics
- Understand Target versus survey populations and implications on social service insights
- Minimize errors in social service insights
- Undertake descriptive analytics on measurable social service data
Module 2: Foundation Session 2.0
- Undertake descriptive analytics on categorical social service data
- Undertake comparative analytics in various social service context
- Develop appropriate research designs suitable for social service research
Module 3: Intermediate Session 1.0
- Undertake associative social service analytics on both measurable and categorical data
- Undertake various kinds of measurable predictive models in the social service context
- Manage issues that will affect quality of predictive models
- Reduce data to improve meaningfulness of analysis and presentation of insights
Module 4: Intermediate Session 2.0
- Undertake various kinds of categorical predictive models including binary logistic regression models and multinomial regression models in the social service context
- Undertake presentation analytics on both measurable and categorical social service data
- Make decisions within the social service ecosystem using discriminant analysis
Module 5: Advanced Session 1.0
- Use various types of qualitative methods to obtain social service insights
- Raise the level of accountability of initiatives and allocation of resources in the social service ecosystem
- Undertake choice analytics in the social service context
Module 6: Advanced Session 2.0
- Use more advanced predictive analytical techniques to obtain social service insights
- Undertake structural equation modelling in the social service context
- Appreciate the need for good data governance with social service data
- Be mindful of ethical issues when undertaking social service studies
Assessment
Participants have to meet a minimum attendance rate of 75% and have to complete all assessment(s) required by the course. Only upon meeting the minimum attendance and passing the assessment will participants be issued a Certificate of Completion.
Participants who fail the assessment will be given a chance for re-assessment at a fee of SGD100.00 (excluding prevailing GST). Each participant is allowed 1 re-assessment. The re-assessment has to be taken within 7 calendar days from the end of the course date. It will be held on a weekday specified by SMU Academy and conducted during office hours. Please note that re-assessment fees are not supported by SSG Funding.
Participants who meet the minimum attendance rate but do not achieve a pass for the assessment will be issued a Certificate of Participation.
SMU will provide laptops pre-loaded with analytics software to all course participants.
In order to be awarded with Advanced Certificate in Social Service Analytics, participants are required to complete all 6 modules, in sequence within 2 years.
For participants with some analytical experience and wish to skip the foundational modules (Modules 1 and 2), submission of evidence of work experience and academic background is needed, and the documents can be submitted in the registration process. Please note that once you skip any module, there will only be individual module certificates. Full certificate is no longer applicable.

- Organisation must be registered or incorporated in Singapore
- Employment size of not more than 200 or with annual sales turnover of not more than $100 million
