Overview

For years, “sourcing” has been just another word for procurement - a financially material, but strategically peripheral, corporate function. Now, globalisation, aided by rapid technology innovation, is changing the basis of competition. Purchasing is seen to shift its focus from daily procurement activities to long term, value-adding strategic tasks, which can help companies attain success in the marketplace.

Strategic sourcing is an approach to supply chain management that formalises the way information is gathered and used so that an organisation can leverage its consolidated purchasing power to find the best values. It serves as a roadmap to procure the goods and services the organisation knows it needs ahead of time, allowing procurement professionals time to find the best price, instead of waiting until there is an immediate need. This advanced certificate will focus on the supply network, value creation, risk, and uncertainty in the supply chain and the overall responsiveness and resilience of the supply chain.

Topic/Structure

To achieve the Advanced Certificate in Strategic Sourcing, participants will need to complete the following modules offered by SMU Academy:

Module 1: Effective Category Management
Module 2: Digital Procurement - Past, Present and Future 
Module 3: Sourcing and Risk Management
Module 4: Finance and Data Analytics for Procurement
Module 5: Supplier Relationship Management
Module 6: Procurement Fraud, Ethics and Sustainability

This module is part of the Industry Graduate Diploma in Strategic Procurement.

Assessment

As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of every module. The mode of assessment, which is up to the trainer’s discretion, may be an online quiz, a presentation or based on classroom exercises.

Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment for each of the 6 modules within 3 years in order to be awarded the digital Advanced Certificate in Strategic Sourcing issued by Singapore Management University.
