Who Should Attend

Professionals and business owners who are keen on deepening their skills and knowledge in corporate and business sustainability.

Overview

Learn more about sustainable finance and the principles of stewardship.

Participants will learn about sustainable finance and impact investing. Traditionally, investment decisions were made based solely on financial measures. Sustainable finance integrates the impacts of environmental, social or governance (ESG) indicators in investment decisions to ensure the lasting benefit of both clients and society at large.

Participants will also understand the importance of stewardship for businesses. For companies in a position to influence change and progress, management has the responsibility to nurture what has been entrusted to them and enhance it for the next generation. With the investment value chain becoming increasingly complex and the business landscape more uncertain, incorporating stewardship into corporate decision-making is especially relevant and timely.

Programme Partner

UN Global Compact Network Singapore (GCNS) is the Singapore chapter of the United Nations Global Compact.

As the national lead agency promoting corporate sustainability, GCNS provides an ecosystem for companies to align strategies and operations with universal principles on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, and take actions to achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through various platforms for multi-stakeholder engagement and collective action, GCNS advances the stewardship of sustainable business practices and Singapore’s national agenda of becoming a regional sustainable business hub. In addition, GCNS nurtures the next generation of responsible business leaders through its youth initiatives. GCNS is a stakeholder of the Global Reporting Initiative and supports the Singapore chapter of the World Bank Group's Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition (CPLC).

Testimonials

I’m Sharon Goh, an energy innovation expert and educator. I enrolled in this course to formalise my sustainability expertise with proper certification, as I was already training others on Scope 1, 2 and 3 CO₂ emissions. I appreciate how the programme is jointly backed by UNGCNS and SMU Academy offering a well-rounded selection of modules that broadened my understanding of sustainability beyond carbon accounting.

Through the course, I learned how to develop sustainability reports and assess the financial impact of sustainable projects. It has been instrumental in helping me see how sustainability and finance intersect, inspiring me to explore ways to drive sustainability through new energy sources, design, and business models.

I highly recommend this programme to my peers who want to build a strong foundation in the evolving world of sustainability.

Thank you SMU Academy for the many wonderful learning experiences I received from your programmes. I have attended a number of sustainability programmes such as ESG & Materiality Reporting and the Certificate in Impact Investing and Mega Trends in Sustainability as well as the Advanced Certificate In Sustainability & Sustainable Businesses. Coming from an industry perspective, I have learned a lot and found the sustainability-related programmes by SMU Academy very useful. Through these programmes, I also got the opportunity to engage and network with various sustainability and ESG industry practitioners from Singapore and even Hong Kong. This is a major advantage for someone like me who is actively transiting from another specialisation into the sustainability/circularity field. Overall, the programmes are well-designed, with the content tailored to address real-world sustainability industry requirements and challenges. It has been a fruitful and enriching learning experience and I appreciate the wonderful industry sharing and learnings with SMU academy. I look forward to more sustainability programmes, especially sustainability finance programmes tailored for those without an advanced background in finance.
