Government relations enable an organisation to communicate with relevant governmental agencies. Public affairs encompass the public relations that helps an organisation interact with the government, legislators, interest groups and the media and where relevant may include how they engage and influence on relevant public policy issues. These two functions often overlap, but government relations tend to be more organisation to government type of communication in which regulatory issues are discussed, communication directed to governmental representatives takes place, lobbying efforts directed at educating legislators are initiated and so on.
