Overview
The course focuses on enhancing participants' understanding and ability to apply sustainable investment principles to the products and services offered by their organisation. By delving into key strategies and governance practices, participants will develop a foundation in sustainable investment and gain insights into the evolving landscape of sustainable finance. Upon completion of the course, participants will possess the ability to articulate different sustainable investment approaches to customers and explain how these approaches align with their organisation's portfolio strategies.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Gain a deep understanding of sustainable investment concepts, principles, and practices, and their relevance to the financial sector
- Explore different sustainable investment approaches, such as Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) exclusion, ESG integration, impact investing, and thematic investing. Understand the strengths, limitations, and potential synergies between these approaches
- Familiarise themselves with sustainable asset classes, including fixed income, loans, corporate equity, and private equity. Learn how to assess and evaluate sustainability factors within these asset classes
- Develop the skills to incorporate sustainability factors into the investment process. Learn about different methodologies and tools available to assess and integrate ESG considerations into investment decisions
- Stay informed about current trends in sustainable investment, including emerging approaches and challenges. Explore the evolving landscape of sustainable finance and identify opportunities for innovation
- Study leading global and regional sustainable investment initiatives, coalitions, and pledges. Understand the principles and best practices promoted by organisations such as the United Nation (UN) Principles for Responsible Investment and the Operating Principles for Impact Management by International Finance Corporation (IFC)
Assessment
As part of the requirements for IBF-STS accredited courses, there will be an assessment in the form of Multiple Choice Questions conducted at the end of the programme.
Participants are required to complete the programme and pass the associated assessment in order to be awarded the digital Certificate of Completion issued by SMU Academy.

IBF - STS Funding
Standards Training Scheme
The IBF Standards Training Scheme (IBF-STS) provides funding for training and assessment programmes accredited under the Skills Framework for Financial Services. It is applicable for both Company-Sponsored and Non Company-Sponsored individuals.
For training programmes commencing from 1 Jan 2023:- Individuals must be physically based in Singapore.
- Singapore Citizens and PRs will be eligible for 50% funding of direct training cost.
- Singapore Citizens aged 40 years old and above will be eligible for 70% co-funding of direct training cost.
- Funding amount is capped at S$3,000 per participant per course.
- Course fees subsidies will not apply to self-sponsored individuals who are not employed by financial institutions and Singapore FinTech Association certified FinTech firms for critical core skills (generic /soft skills) and future-enabled skill only courses.
- Trainees are only eligible for a one-time grant of course fee subsidies for the course per calendar year, subject to their successful completion of the course.

- Sustainability Investment Management Proficiency Level 3
Participants are encouraged to access the IBF MySkills Portfolio to track their training progress and skills acquisition against the Skills Framework for Financial Services. You can apply for IBF Certification after fulfilling the required number of Technical Skills and Competencies (TSCs) for the selected job role.
