Transformers, Large Language Models (LLMs) and Multimodal Learning
- Analytics & Tech
- Artificial Intelligence
This programme is conducted on-campus.
2 days
Weekdays (9am - 6pm)
Singapore Management University
Who Should Attend
- AI and Machine Learning Engineers looking to build Gen AI applications
- AI Scientists
- Data Analysts
- Software Engineers
- IT Professionals and Team Leads
Participants are required to have a functional laptop with the following specifications:
- CPU: Must be at least Intel Core i3.
- GPU: Must have an integrated graphics card.
- RAM: Must be at least 4GB.
No prior experience is required. Participants are expected to be proficient in computer usage and possess fundamental logical thinking or numeracy skills. A proactive approach to learning through practical exercises is essential.
Overview
Understanding these models is increasingly important in business, as organisations adopt Large Language Models (LLMs) and multimodal AI to streamline knowledge management, automate customer engagement, support decision-making, and enhance digital products and services. Participants will explore the architecture and applications of Transformers and LLMs, including their use in tasks like text summarization and question answering. Multimodal learning, which integrates data from multiple sources such as text and images, is also introduced.
The module incorporates practical exercises on no-code platforms, enabling participants to experiment with pre-trained models for real-world tasks. Ethical considerations and AI safety are also discussed to ensure the responsible use of these technologies. By the end of this module, participants will have a comprehensive understanding of advanced AI models and their capabilities.

Learning Objectives
- Transformer Architecture: Describe the architecture and working principles of Transformers, including the attention mechanism and encoder-decoder architecture
- LLM Capabilities: Describe the capabilities of Large Language Models (LLMs) and their significance in natural language understanding tasks
- Multimodal Models: Describe how multimodal models can simultaneously take inputs of varying formats and explore the capabilities of some commercially available multimodal models
- AI Safety & Ethics: Address AI safety and ethical considerations for LLM deployment
Topic/Structure
- Introduction to Transformers
- Large Language Models (LLMs)
- Introduction to Fine-tuning LLMs
- Multimodal Learning Overview
- AI Safety and Ethical Consideration
Assessment
- MCQ
- Written Assignment
As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of every module. The mode of assessment, which is up to the trainer’s discretion, may be an online quiz, a presentation or based on classroom exercises.
Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment in order to receive a digital Certificate of Completion issued by Singapore Management University.
