Overview

SMU Academy understands the challenges of Singapore's SMEs owners who have successfully grown their business to a certain scale but find themselves facing headwinds when getting ready for growth and expansion. These include managing a growing team of managers, handling responsibilities to the next generation and building systematic processes that are the bedrock of the business.

Fuelling executive leadership for growth, the Enterprise Leadership for Transformation (ELT) by SMU, is in partnership with Enterprise Singapore and supported by UOB. The programme is jointly brought to you by SMU Academy and UOB-SMU Asian Enterprise Institute.

SMU Academy has identified a gap in the development of the Singapore SME sector. While the market provides programmes for new businesses starting up and bigger businesses scaling up in other regions, there is a pressing gap for SMEs owners just getting ready for growth and scale.

Broadly speaking, these sandwiched companies fulfil these criteria:

  1. Total revenue between SGD$5 million to SGD$50 million
  2. Presence in Singapore and 1 or 2 other geographic locations
  3. Manpower of between 20 to 100

PROGRAMME PARTNER

SMU is proud to work with United Overseas Bank (UOB) in tailoring the programme to the industry and bringing the best of SMU and UOB together.

UOB is committed to building lasting relationships with our customers, through product and market expertise, and our promise to always do what is right.

With a well-established global presence today and particularly in Asia, UOB has an understanding of Asian markets, corporate culture and business mindsets, which is matched by few. Our strong foothold in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and China is well-placed to create greater access and growth in this region, for our customers.

IN PARTNERSHIP WITH

Enterprise Singapore’s Enterprise Leadership for Transformation (ELT) is a one-year programme that supports business leaders of promising small and medium enterprises to develop business growth capabilities.

The programme helps leaders develop business growth plans that will take their enterprises to the next level. The ELT will be administered by a network of partners including Institutes of Higher Learning, financial institutions and industry experts who understand the unique challenges faced by small and medium enterprises. Eligible enterprises can qualify for up to 90% funding of programme fees.

Learning Objectives

  • Enhance SME Owners’ Leadership Capability
We want to up-skill these sandwiched SME owners with leadership lessons and relevant knowledge that can help propel their business forward.
  • Coaching and Joint Development of a Business Growth Plan
Over the programme duration, they will be actively working on an implementable business plan that they can bring back to their SME and apply.
  • Peer-to-Peer Support Network and Access to an SMU Growth Office
Critical to their growth is finding like-minded peers in the same stage of business development to learn from each other’s mistakes and successes.

Topic/Structure

Assessment

  • There are small quizzes after each module
  • There are also deliverables during the course of the programme which aids in the formation of your business growth plan
  • The Business Growth plan is actionable and relates back to your learnings and coaching sessions
