Overview
Companies and individuals are increasingly turning to coaches and coaching to enhance employee performance and professional development. Effective coaching enables the individuals to achieve their goals or realise their potential. An effective coach is able to help individuals clarify goals, set meaningful targets, analyse their performance and identify specific behaviors or steps to meet the goals.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the 3-day module, participants will be able to:
- Understand the legal and ethical considerations and standards related to providing coaching and mentoring
- Acquire techniques for effective goal setting and collaborate with learners to set goals and define specific development areas
- Demonstrate active listening methods and types of questioning techniques and models

Day 1
Definition of Coaching - Distinct from mentoring and counselling; Coaching as a trending leadership quality
Core Coaching Skills - ICF Coaching Competencies & Ethical guidelines; Generative listening, Powerful questions
Coaching Conversation Structure - TGROW Model Introduction; Questions for each phase (topic, goal, reality, options, will) of the conversation
Core Coaching Skills - Listening levels, summarize, reflect, hypothesis; Questioning Techniques: when, intention, for whom
Day 2
Raising Awareness - Range of coaching approaches; Insightful questions
Models to use in Coaching – set a goal - Create objectivity and perspective; High Performance model
Working with Performance - Concept of Performance, Potential, Interference; Feedback in coaching
Coaching Practice - Practice particular skills; Receive feedback on practice
Day 3
Coaching Practice - Practice particular skills; Receive feedback on practice
Models to use in Coaching - Expand reality; Create objectivity and perspectives; Inner Game: following interest
Working with Challenge - Why and what are we challenging; How to create challenge

ICF Credentialing
The program is recognized as accredited training by ICF - the world’s largest organization of professionally trained coaches, based in USA. The first three modules provide the participant with the required number of training hours related to the ICF competencies. The last module allows the participant to better understand the requirements of ICF credentialing and the preparation needed for their coaching career.
The program fulfils the training hours required in the ACSTH pathway to ICF certification. However, to qualify as an ICF-certified coach, you would need to fulfil other requirements as mentioned in the ICF website: https://coachingfederation.org/
Assessment
Participants have to meet a minimum attendance rate of 75% and have to complete all assessment(s) required by the course. Only upon meeting the minimum attendance and passing the assessment will participants be issued a Certificate of Completion.
Participants who fail the assessment will be given a chance for re-assessment at a fee of SGD100.00 (excluding prevailing GST). Each participant is allowed 1 re-assessment. The re-assessment has to be taken within 7 calendar days from the end of the course date. It will be held on a weekday specified by SMU Academy and conducted during office hours. Please note that re-assessment fees are not supported by SSG Funding.
Participants who meet the minimum attendance rate but do not achieve a pass for the assessment will be issued a Certificate of Participation.
Participants are required to bring their laptop to access the course materials, class exercises and individual assessment(s).
In order to be awarded with Professional Certificate in Coaching, participants are required to complete all 4 modules in sequence within 2 years.

Enhanced Training Support for SMEs (ETSS)
- Organisation must be registered or incorporated in Singapore
- Employment size of not more than 200 or with annual sales turnover of not more than $100 million
