Overview
With the advent of the digital age, expectations for procurement are no longer confined to the contribution to the bottom line. Backed by real-time access to market data and trends, procurement can offer valuable information for top-line strategic decisions. In addition, procurement - informed by detailed information, analytical tools, and collaboration technologies - will need to focus on traditional procurement activities to become more sophisticated in category management, supplier relationship management, and strategic sourcing. Surviving in this new digital reality will require procurement to move beyond bottom-line efficiency by embracing digital and transforming the supply chain to become a valuable strategic business partner.
Designed for managers, executives, and specialists whose functions and responsibilities are involved in the planning, organising, negotiating and control of purchasing activities, this Industry Graduate Diploma is made up of two separate programmes, namely the Advanced Certificate in Procurement Essentials and Advanced Certificate in Strategic Sourcing.
Participants will be awarded the Industry Graduate Diploma in Strategic Procurement issued by Singapore Management University upon successful completion of both the advanced certificate programmes.

Programme 1
Advanced Certificate in Procurement Essentials
This advanced certificate aims to develop a comprehensive and strategic set of skills required of a world-class procurement professional to implement the most up-to-date procurement strategies and policies.
Programme 2
Advanced Certificate in Strategic Sourcing
This advanced certificate will focus on the supply network, value creation, risk, and uncertainty in the supply chain and the overall responsiveness and resilience of the supply chain.
Learning Objectives
The Industry Graduate Diploma in Strategic Procurement aims to provide learners with an understanding of procurement and its evolving role in businesses, as well as the principles, ethics, and probity that it encompasses.
Through this programme, learners will:
- Understand the process and types of specification writing.
- Learn the application of evaluation principles, ethics, and probity in procurement.
- Acquire tools and techniques to navigate negotiations with vendors and suppliers.
- Understand contract management and its role in the procurement lifecycle.
- Understand what category management is, and the strategic function it serves to deliver better outcomes.
- Gain an overview of the impact of digitalisation on procurement over the years, including the benefits and pitfalls.
- Understand the sourcing process, different types of procurement risks, and how to manage sourcing efficiently while mitigating risks.
- Learn how finance impacts procurement, interpret financial documents, and understand how data analytics is used for demand forecasting and warehouse management.
- Understand the principles of public procurement and the key role they play in conducting a fair and ethical procurement process.
- Learn the tools and approaches to identify and manage important and strategic suppliers.
Assessment
As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of every module as well as an overall Industry Graduate Diploma exam. The mode of assessment, which is up to the trainer’s discretion, may be an online quiz, a presentation or based on classroom exercises.
CERTIFICATION
Upon completion of all the required modules within 2 years and passing the overall IGD exam, participants will be awarded an Industry Graduate Diploma in Strategic Procurement.

SkillsFuture Credit
Singapore Citizens aged 25 and above may use their SkillsFuture Credits to pay for the course fees. The credits may be used on top of existing course fee funding.
This is only applicable to self-sponsored participants. Application to utilise SkillsFuture Credits can be submitted when making payment for the course via the SMU Academy TMS Portal, and can only be made within 60 days of course start date.

Company Sponsored
Enhanced Training Support for SMEs (ETSS)
- Organisation must be registered or incorporated in Singapore
- Employment size of not more than 200 or with annual sales turnover of not more than $100 million
- Trainees must be hired in accordance with the Employment Act and fully sponsored by their employers for the course
- Trainees must be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
- Trainees must not be a full-time national serviceman
