Overview

The rapid growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI) data centres is reshaping global infrastructure demand, driven by accelerating hyperscaler demand and the expansion of compute-intensive applications. This shift is creating new pressures on energy, water, and carbon resources, bringing green financing and clean energy finance to the forefront of investment decisions.

Using the NVIDIA growth narrative and hyperscaler demand trends as context, participants will explore power demand projections, sustainability benchmarks, green financing instruments, and sustainability-linked loans. The module examines Singapore’s positioning as a data centre hub and evaluates investment decision-making under energy transition constraints. 

Participants assess how capital markets support AI infrastructure while aligning with climate objectives. 
 

Learning Objectives

At the end of the 2-day course, participants will be able to: 

  • Understand the Artificial Intelligence (AI) data centre ecosystem, including how AI applications drive infrastructure growth and hyperscaler demand 
  • Explain the NVIDIA growth narrative and its role in shaping global AI and data centre expansion 
  • Analyse how AI workloads translate into infrastructure requirements, including power, cooling, water usage, and system resilience 
  • Assess the environmental impact of data centres, including energy, water, and carbon considerations within regional constraints 
  • Apply key performance benchmarks such as Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE), Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE), and Carbon Usage Effectiveness (CUE) to evaluate data centre efficiency and sustainability 
  • Understand hyperscaler clean energy strategies, including procurement approaches such as Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), and grid integration 
  • Evaluate green financing models, including the role of sustainability-linked loans in driving performance improvements 
  • Position Singapore’s role as a strategic hub for AI infrastructure financing and clean energy solutions across the region 

Assessment

As part of the requirement for Skills and Workforce Development Agency (SWDA), there will be an assessment conducted at the end of the course. Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment in order to receive a digital Certificate of Completion.

SkillsFuture Credit

Singapore Citizens aged 25 and above may use their SkillsFuture Credits to pay for the course fees. The credits may be used on top of existing course fee funding.

This is only applicable to self-sponsored participants. Application to utilise SkillsFuture Credits can be submitted when making payment for the course via the SMU Academy TMS Portal, and can only be made within 60 days of course start date.

Enhanced Training Support for SMEs (ETSS)

  • Organisation must be registered or incorporated in Singapore
  • Employment size of not more than 200 or with annual sales turnover of not more than $100 million
  • Trainees must be hired in accordance with the Employment Act and fully sponsored by their employers for the course
  • Trainees must be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
  • Trainees must not be a full-time national serviceman
